I see that Gringoboy and a few otheres were using it a few years ago but just wondered if it was useful now.

If useful means total anonymity for you, then no. If you just want to make it harder and don't mind very slow connection speeds, go for it.

what do you want to use it for? its not very good as a VPN for streaming as its far too slow.

She who must be obeyed , asked me about it last night . Mainly for VPN at little or no cost is what the boss needs.

As ejcot said, if you want to do anything where you need a decent bandwidth, forget it - even though this might not be an option for "she who must be obeyed" The problem is that your packets are routed dynamically over a lot of other client nodes, typically provided by other private users and given that most broadband internet connections are asymmetric (i.e., you have way more capacity for the download compared to uploads), it's often painfully slow.
