Good to know, thanks. Nobody asked us about our health insurance last week, they were more interested in the car insurance, crossing by ferry.
 
I read a post somewhere last year, the guy flashed his Medicare card and it was accepted by the border guard. Medicare doesn't cover you outside the US (unlike most other national heath insurance programs) but the border guard didn't know that ;)>
 
good to know because last month American Airlines wouldn't even let my mom check in for the flight until she had purchased a special travel insurance, and then when we arrived in Montevideo they literally asked us for nothing!
