Hi All,

We are a family of three; my husband, myself and our 2 year old daughter. We are going to be in BA for two months from late feb. We want to experience BA as locals as much as we can, during our trip (we speak Spanish, although mine is pretty rusty) and hopefully this visit won't be the last. I have read about safety and am hoping that if we are sensible (no watches or smartphones) that we will be okay in that regard.

We are staying in Palermo and wondered if there were any activities/tips you would recommend, or things we should avoid with a young child?

Also we need to buy a cot when we arrive, are there any good 2nd hand forums?

Thanks in advance!

Hello and Welcome!

I really hope you enjoy your stay here at BsAs. Please don't worry about the rustiness of your spanish, as I don't worry too much about the rustiness of my english. You may also use some "portuñol".
About security I think the normal precautions apply as the ones you described, plus avoiding certain places at certain hours. Other than that you'll be ok. Palermo is nice and safe enough, with plenty options.

As for the cot, this forum has a sub forum for trade 2nd hand things, and of course you can always check mercadolbre.com.ar for new and used items.
Being a native with little command of english I'm not sure what do you mean by cot.
If a small temporary bed, like this:

or a crib:

Anyway, I hope it helps and other anwsers of (real) expats help you more.

I'd check https://www.facebook.com/groups/gringosbuyselldonateBA/ for second hand goods, as well as the classified section of this forum. The second hand market here is huge because of many people with low income. Quality can be disappointing, so if there is something of quality you will absolutely need (like any electronics), bring them over from home.

I wouldn't worry about using your "smart" phones or watches ( unless gold and diamonds). Really just don't go around dripping with gold and lots of cameras around your neck and you'll be fine. BsAs is just another big city with pickpockets.

It may be roasting hot when you arrive (as it is right now), so Club de Amigos is a good place to check out, especially with your child, since they have a pool and other summer activities for kids.
