When did Wi-Fi get popular in BA?

I was here in 2006 and don't remember so many places having Wi-Fi. Today, it seems like Wi-Fi is everywhere, which is great. But when did this happen? Did I miss it before or is it new-ish (since 2006)?

Just curious.
 
It may be hard to remember but in 2006 there was no such thing as an iPhone either. Change happens at such a phenomenal rate that 2006 might just as well have been the Dark Ages.
 
Well, I came in late 2005 for vacation (first time) and it was pretty popular then. So my guess is maybe you just missed it?
