A lot of expats have different ways of stocking their personal library. Let us know the details in the comment section!

I would break it down like this:

60% I bring back after travelling.
30% I buy locally.
10% I buy electronically

I would buy more electronically, but the books I generally need/want aren't available.

Just bought two new books today at Kel, Martinez, which is a reader's paradise.
Patrick O'Brian-Far side of the world
and Fidel Castro-My Life..........a huge 600 page book.
Both for AR$228, which was lower than I expected. Also, they tell me that they are not having too many problems with the import situation :)

I have purchased only one new book in about 4 or 5 years, and that was off amazon last year. I download epubs off the net - sharing sites, and some free books sites.
I did try to purchased one epub but the transaction wouldnt go through because i guess my CC is from NZ and i was trying to buy from here.

But i usually buy real books from second hand stores, especially from salvation army stores in aus... i would buy 10 or so at a time, for a dollar or 2 each. Then bring here and read, then give away/swap when finished.
The other good place i get books is from a friend who works for an airline, the books that are left on the plane are put into a crew library, so he will grab me a few when he comes down this way.

El Rio Libros in San Isidro has a small selection of used books in English, but I'm always able to find something--Maybe that's because I'll read almost anything when I'm in BA (it's still tough for me to participate in a speedy Spanish conversation between my wife and her friends).
