I'm trying to deck out an apartment. I need a large coffee table, sideboard, bookshelf maybe another couch etc

Where should I look. BA seems to have zones for different products. Where is the furniture zone?

Cheers

Avenida Belgrano, from the corner of Entre Rios and up. Mercadolibre is good too, found it cheaper than the stores for sofas.

For artisanal furniture try Medrano between Guardia Vieja and Corrientes.
There is also a good guy who will make whatever you want on Salguero just up from Humahuaca he has a lovely range of stuff all unfinished that he will finish to whatever you want.
There are a load of bigger furniture shops along Corrientes around here and electrical places for your white goods Teles etc.
Or you could just go around Palermo and pay silly prices.

Also try craigslist. Lots of people here are always moving on and selling there 2nd hand stuff cheap so it can be a perfect place to pick up some bargains. Otherwise Mercadolibre.com.ar has everything.

I bought a couch 2 years ago from http://www.livingdelparque.com.ar/ at their Edison 2756 address out the back of the Unicenter. It was 50% less than most other place I saw in Buenos Aires (including other livingdelparque stores), I think it was a direct from the factory price. Can't guarantee the prices will still be lower now.

The flea market on Dorrego near the corner of Cabrera has a huge selection of used furniture, all periods and all conditions and mostly well priced. Also a bunch of stores in that general neighborhood. We always go there when we're in town.

MercadoLibre.com for sure... I searched for months around the furniture stores here to furnish my apartment and all the stores carried the same crap. No variety.. it was the same black leather couch, same red bar stool, etc in every store. On mercadolibre I found so much more variety and the prices were like 75% lower than the prices in the stores with the same stuff.
