I just read a post on 36 Hours in Buenos Aires by the new york times. It was pretty lame, very basic.
What is some of the weirdest, craziest stuff you´ve seen or done in Buenos Aires? Not necessarily talking about tourist stuff, but stuff that would be interesting to a visitor, either an activity or a place.

(I have a lot of people coming to visit soon and am tired of always doing the same things with them, and some have been here a few times--no more tango shows or buying leather goods!)
For example:
I studied at the "letras" campus of the University of Buenos Aires and coming from the states, I found the run down state of the building combined with every inch covered in political posters facinating, and very different to me.

Go eat lots of blood sausage, utters and intestines of cows.

The book tank guy who is in San Telmo and gives away free books.

Circus class.

La Salada market.

Any more ideas? Throw them out. They can be outside of the city as well.

Hmm, I don't know about weird or crazy, not really interested. Though if that's what you like there is a high availability of drugs so anything can appear weird and crazy. What I do like is that there are half a dozen invitations on my facebook page per day to a huge variety of cultural events of all forms. To answer your question more specifically, maybe try galpon that houses El Gato Viejo? When there is a music event? A particular experience. Similarly go to a Korean in Bajo Flores (behind bars). Also, I love the Costanera Sur on a sunny day when people of every class invade Puerto Madero and there is music of a different type every 200 yards.

Hope that helps

Feria de Mataderos! So much better than San Telmo market and cheaper too. Check out the Gaucho museum and, hopefully, payada (the singing jokester show)! Also, behind the stage there is a guy with amazing gaucho knives with handles made from bird claws, bone etc! If you catch the feria at the right time they show the gaucho games (the loop and the needle etc) and there was even a guy with a mini pony with a dog riding on top of it. Doesn't get much weird than that!

Surf music in the basement of the Club del Progreso, including the lead guitarist from Los Straitjackets (Memphis-based surf band; video is a sample, not the actual performance I saw in which he was backed by Porteños):

I would take them to Mercado del Progreso, on an architectural tour around the city, to some of the lesser known museums like the house of Bartolmé Mitre and Fernandez-Blanco, to some of the notable cafés OUTSIDE of the center of downtown, here's a list of all of them: http://www.54bares.c...odos-los-bares/ the ones outside of the center like in Boedo and Almagro are a bit more worn down but very cool and nostalgic. The 3 cafés I personally like that are in the center of town are the café in Retiro Station (really beautiful), El Gato Negro (not that fancy but excellent coffee and a very cool vibe) and Las Violetas (spectacular desserts and spectacular interior, impeccably maintained). The musem of natural history right outside of Parque Centenario is really cool too, you can see dinasour bones that were found under Av. Santa Fe and Pueyrredon when they were building the subway!! http://www.macn.secy...t_Gral/home.php Personally I would skip La Salada market, I've been there and I thought it was scary and most of the merchandise looked like things you could by in Once at the wholesale shops. Having to walk over that shaky bridge with all of the holes in the ground and walking on abandoned train tracks over the Riachuelo was not my idea of a fun day. I did though eat a very juicy and tasty churrasco sandwich with some very spicy chimichurri, that was the highlight of my visit to La Salada.

if they like to dance, like it was 1976 at the Paradise Garage in NYC, take em to Dengue Dancing, on Thursdays at the Shamrock. (it used to be at Gong, which is probably the weirdest night spot in BsAs- now, on friday's, there is a club there called Pablo-havent been, but Gong is like a spaceship from the 70's crash landed in a basement in the microcento, and has 150 year old bartenders serving drag queens at 4 in the morning)
Take em for a real pastrami sandwich at La Crespo- http://pickupthefork.com/2011/06/05/la-crespo-a-jewish-american-palermonites-heaven/
take em to Jauja for gelato.
take em to the costanera sur for a choripan or bondiola, any time, day or night.
or maybe to the wacky "club" that Regazzoni has in his studio down behind the Retiro train station- you want weird, it dont get no weirder than that- you cross Libertador, walk down a funny little dirt road to the left of the train museum, and he has a huge shed full of crazy scrap metal art, and a funky cafe/bar/club, often with live music.

Just drive and walk around. Chances are they'll see things they never saw before. La Salada... oof, give them a course in watching their belongings. Tigre or San Telmo might be nicer.

I think some of the most memorable experiences are the things you cant really plan. Try to give more of an insight into daily life. I don't suggest going into bad areas, but head to parts you normally don't frequent (as long as it's safe.)
Tour a school.
Head to a plaza during the weekend where drummers practice and perform.
Visit some churches.
Take them to a restaurant with live music - not tango or gauchos, but something more modern or different.
See a band - Argentine rock.
Take them on your daily errands.
Maybe I just like the mundane, but you get a better idea of the culture and chances are you will come across something interesting.

What might be weird is taking them to a football match, but not the touristy thing, take them to the popular (where you have to be on foot, jumping and singing), and feel the vibe from inside. Take them to the Monumental stadium, probably the most safe, and in a popular match, with people, not the clasico, but some important match. Remember, not go to platea, go to popular!
