    Redpossum has gone

Thanks to you jeff for bumping this, I had been off the board for a very long time and hadn’t seen this. He was quite the character, and his absence is indeed noticeable.

The myth of white Argentina still shapes the nation

You say whataboutism, I say rank hypocrisy. Tomato, Tomahto. If a cop stops an African-American for jaywalking and has never stopped whites for doing the same, pointing that out - literally going “hey, what about all THOSE people, why are you ticketing just me?” is not “whataboutism”. It’s...

The myth of white Argentina still shapes the nation

...do not necessarily reflect Al Jazeera’s editorial stance One would assume not, AJ being the state organ of a nation which almost entirely funded by a state which - by the metrics advanced in the article - is orders of magnitude more backwards than any Western state has been for an awfully...

    Airfare Discounts

Appreciate the kind words! Not doing travel for the time being, though - really should update my signature. That said, if there’s a straightforward question I can help resolve, I am more than happy to - just that I don’t check back here all that often these days. Hope everyone here is doing well!

The U line, or Linea Urquiza

I was honestly hoping this part would have links embedded.

Paying the Overstay Fee at the Cruise Terminal

    1. Technically it’s not a “red eye”, just a regular overnight flight - because unlike a LA-NY flight, you’re not covering 9 hours in a 6-hour flight. 2. Last time I paid the overstay fee anywhere, it was 300 pesos, and it was actually easier to pay it at the Buquebus terminal than at an airport.

USA cell phone number to use in Argentina

If you want an actual cell phone that simply works, use Simple Mobile. They’re an MVNO that run in the US on T-Mobile’s network, but roam seamlessly about just about all of Latin America.

Milei makes the cover of TIME Magazine.

As opposed to suggesting that Javier is like *checks notes* HITLER, because *cups hand to earpiece* a magazine listed them both on its cover. True clarity. Be ashamed Rich, for muddling the water.

    WiFi repeater needed

I used this for a nice couple of years, worked very well. Tiny and cheap: https://listado.mercadolibre.com.ar/wa-850#D[A:wa-850] Once I needed a multi-floor setup, I bought 3 eeros and never looked back. Pricier but worth it.

    Milei’s Amputation Regime for Argentina

As a child of emigrés from the Communist bloc, it is difficult to distill into words the extent of the eye-rolling posts like this induce. Sure, theatre, classical music, opera, ballet were indeed all subsidized. There was merely the issue of procuring food. Black markets were not just for...

    The Milei phenomena

Because people with a real life with no interest in discussing politics with English speakers who happen to be in the same country... won’t?

78 days from turno to resuelto for extra-Mercosur permanent residency.

Also, the process cost 600 pesos. Good times.

Cry for me... Argentina ranks #1 on Misery Index!

Yes and yes, question of funniness notwithstanding. This list is absolutely moronic, it reads like something coming from the Forbes contributor network. From the first paragraphs: OK, let’s go with that analogy. How many people would go with adding up a person’s BMI, pulse rate multiplied by...

78 days from turno to resuelto for extra-Mercosur permanent residency.

This sounds positively insane. I got my PR in the early 2010’s, my home country doesn’t do apostille so had to jump thru extra hoops with getting my documents authenticated/legalized at the local Arg consulate. Once I had the docs in hand, I made a turno online for a few weeks later. Came in...
