Muu Lechería in Palermo-- a No Recommendation

Sugar (next to Plaza Armenia) has a new (renewed?) food menu, and the burgers are really good. Patties are the right size, good buns, and quality condiments. I've had the Aloha burger and the Blue Cheese burger, and both were great. I also like the steak/ranch-sized fries they serve alongside...

Where are the Bball fans watching the NBA finals?!!

I'll be at Sugar Bar (plaza Armenia, Palermo). Was there for the game on Tuesday, and it was full of NBA fans. Arrive early tonight; it's also "girls drink free" night. :)

Worlds best kept secret ( Argentina)

Seemingly fairly scientific (by economists) on-going (daily) tracking of inflation (mostly around groceries) in Buenos Aires: http://www.inflacionverdadera.com/

    ..some good music in castellano!!

Here's a relatively recent thread on Great Argentine bands: http://baexpats.org/newcomers-forum/5674-great-argentine-bands.html Two of my favorite non-Arg rock-ish bands are Colombian: Juanes and Carlos Vives. I also like basically any Cuban jazz and Colombian salsa music. I'll even admit to...

    it,s quiet tonight

I saw a forecast yesterday for 40% chance of rain today, so booked the indoor courts at Costa Rica club for this morning. HUGE bonus surprise: Juan del Potro & his entourage showed up to play on the court right next to us! (no dividers!) He's massive. We almost created an international...

When inflation is not really *inflation*

http://www.inflacionverdadera.com/ seems like an interesting effort to truly quantify the inflation here in Argentina. I'm not an economist (but I play one on TV... ;) ), so I haven't done a deep investigation into their numbers and methodology.

    Word of the Day:

Quilombo means "a mess" or "clusterf*ck". In addition to wordreference.com, I find http://www.asihablamos.com/ to be really useful for looking up Spanish slang and colloquialisms (since it allows users from different countries and regions to declare what it means there, and there are some...

"Smash and Grab" and rising Palermo Soho Crime

Recent Palermo SoHo crime anecdote: I just talked to an American woman who last week had her work(!) laptop stolen from under her typing hands while she was sitting at a streetside table at a cafe in SoHo, at corner of Thames & Charcas. Middle of the day. She was absorbed in her work, so she...

if we're on for Sunday, would the organizer (Simon?) mind starting a new thread for the event? (pedantic? probably...)

Chinese New Year Celebrations at Barrio Chino in Belgrano

Yes, it was *crazy* packed today. Wall-to-wall gente! Fortunately most were well-behaved, with a modest level of push-n-shove/ebb-and-flow. The great weather probably drew more people out, but also probably helped to chill folks out. I wouldn't go again next year; too hectic to enjoy.
