What is there to do? I hear from portenios and expats alike that BsAs is dead for the holiday. It's too late to book anything affordable in Punta del Este, from what I can tell. What are some other options, within five or six hours from the city?

I drink iced coffee first thing in the morning. It's too potent to maintain all day though.

On $1000/month? Colombia. Much cheaper and more diverse than Panama or especially Costa Rica.

Do you drink it? I drink a ton of mate, but am not used to it hot when it's warm outside. I first had it iced in Brazil, and have a hard time wrapping my mind around drinking hot mate in the summer.

Hostel Inn is very good for a budget place. Avoid Foz do Iguacu as much as possible - it's a charmless midsized Brazilian city, much dodgier than Puerto Iguazu. The Argentine side of the falls is also much better, although the panorama from the Brazilian side is worth an hour or two. If you...
