    getting sick

(Now watch as I come down with the flu tomorrow...) A rider to my previous post: when I say 'something slightly worse', I do of course mean with my throat. Fernet Branca doesn't cure broken bones or muscle pain, whatever some people might tell you.

    getting sick

Where are you from Magda? If it's northern Europe I'd say there's every chance you won't get a cold here. I haven't had one since I've been in BA (I moved here in April last year and had also spent two sniffle-free winters here prior to that), and I can't think of any northern Europeans I know...

Got here - What happened to winter?

We're neighbours then, John. Welcome to the República de San Telmo, you'll like it here. There's a small chance I'll be in Gibraltar later... do you have a mobile number yet? If so PM it to me, it'd be a pleasure to meet up and help you settle in... I'm a bit busy between now and the end of the...

Winter ( The worst is yet to come )

I don't find this weather at all cold right now (I was visiting the UK seven months ago, and it hit -18 celcius whilst I was staying with friends in Manchester, so...), but it all depends what you're used to, doesn't it? And this winter and last winter are definitely colder than I remember it...

    Jobs other than teaching english?

No worries about that. It's dead easy, especially if you know people who are already teaching. It's not my main job - in fact I've got one student, who I've not seen for over a month - but it's not hard to get into. There are a couple of people on this board who might well be able to put you in...

    Thai food in BA

And Gibraltar in San Telmo... as I've just said in the spicy food thread. Good green, red and massaman curries, and the hot jungle beef is nice and hot.

    Spicy food in BA

An Argentine thought they were spicy? Hey, that's incr... um, hang on... that's not much of a boast at all. I mean, it does look tasty and everything, don't get me wrong! I'd second Gibraltar, the hot jungle beef is the real deal (most of the time). Although these days I tend to buy packages...

    Meeting Women (to date)

I have an English friend who moved here a few years ago to live with his Argentine girlfriend (they met whilst both studying in Madrid). He's got a couple of good Argentine male friends who speak fluent English, but go along to Spanglish and pretend they've only just started learning, in order...

    football tickets.

Not at all. It's a reference to the fact that at least one of us (and on some occasions more than just us two) will be present. Honest.

Need to get prepaid cell for 3 month stay?

Why do you want to phone internationally from a mobile phone here? The rates are extortionate. You can use a calling card from a locutorio, much cheaper. And phones for a dead basic Nokia model should start around AR$170, no need to pay AR$700+.

What happened to me 90 day renewal!!

I'm not an expert, but I've read on here in the past that if you've had a 90-day extension at migraciones, then that's all your stay is valid for if you leave and return to Argentina before the 90 days is up. If you'd been in Uruguay on the 20th, and returned after, you'd have another 90 days...

    Meeting Women (to date)

Typical British charm? Hey, some of us Brits have some basic manners! He sounds more like he was actively setting out to offend you, frankly. If he'd been saying those things to me, I'd have taken about a minute to decide he was a total arsehole. I'm no smoothie with the ladies (although Johnny...

    football tickets.

Tickets will be on sale today and tomorrow from around 10am, cafeconleche. Diskosis' tip is a good one but it's worth considering that prices have risen this year (again!) and the San Martín Alta now costs AR$180. The Belgrano Alta (across the pitch, basically the stand the main broadcast TV...

    Electric shaver plug

I do and it doesn't. I have just managed to jam the plug into the socket of my friend's four-way, though, so it looks like I've saved myself those six pesos! Toothbrush is charging, at any rate!

    Electric shaver plug

Thanks, chaps. For six pesos, I may as well go and try to find an adaptor now. I'm staying with a friend at present but move to my own place in just under two weeks. Might be that the plugs there have a bit more 'give' in them, but for the sake of having my toothbrush charged now I may as well...
