Anyone flown to Miami via Rio (GIG)?

I'm pretty sure you're not allowed to leave the airport if you're connecting, no matter how long the layover or your visa status. Friends of mine recently tried it and weren't allowed to leave.

New and already had a gun pulled on me

As others have said, sorry to hear it. I'm no longer in BA but my thinking while there was that, at some point, you will definitely be robbed, no matter where you live. It might not be at gun point, in fact probably not, but it will happen. For me it was in Recoleta and it involved a knife...

Leaving for UChicago, what should I do?

Congrats! I'm a U Chicago alumnus myself. I've also worked and taught there, so if you have any questions about the university, Hyde Park, or Chicago in general I'd be happy to help. I'm back in Chicago now after living in Bs.As. for a year and a half. I'd make sure to bring plenty of yerba...

Argentina's President Cristina Kirchner has been diagnosed with thyroid cancer

I don't think anyone is saying that there aren't real conspiracies. There are, and the US has been and I'm sure continues to be behind many plots against its enemies. What I'm saying, in any case, is that however you examine Cristina's recent cancer diagnosis it makes no sense for secret US...

Argentina's President Cristina Kirchner has been diagnosed with thyroid cancer

But what money is there to be made from assassinating Cristina? The US already does lots of business in Argentina. US companies have operated there for a long time and continue to do so. The Argentine government is a big buyer of US debt and dollars. If the idea is to kill a president to open...

Argentina's President Cristina Kirchner has been diagnosed with thyroid cancer

Honestly, why would the CIA want to kill Cristina? While some of her trade and foreign policies don't align with US interests/ideology she is hardly an "enemy" of the United States. And if they did want to kill her why would they do it by giving her a highly treatable form of cancer?

    Selling pesos at EZE?

I exchanged them at a Chase bank for 4.8 Pesos (more or less) to the Dollar.

    Selling pesos at EZE?

As far as I could tell only people going into the Banco De La Nacion who brought forms from AFIP or whoever were allowed to sell pesos for dollars. The various exchange kiosks weren't selling dollars at all. If I were you I wouldn't even bother at EZE if possible. Try to do it before you get...

    Selling pesos at EZE?

I was there on Nov. 18th. Then, at least, you couldn't exchange pesos for dollars without pre-approval. Lots of tourists trying to leave found they couldn't exchange their pesos and were very confused. I had to wait until getting back to the US to exchange them. I'm not sure if the ban applies...

    Has Bariloche Recovered?

Thanks Nicole, I appreciate the honest info. I've found it hard to get clear info from newspapers and websites about the state of ash on the ground. Earlier you said that Bariloche was the southern limit of the ash, is that still the case? Is a place like El Bolson, for example, mostly unaffected?

    Has Bariloche Recovered?

Can anyone living near Bariloche or who has visited the area recently give an update on the ash situation? I'm thinking of heading that way in a couple weeks. I don't expect it to be back to the pre-ash days, some ash is to be expected, but if I'm going to see lakes and beaches mottled with...

Scarey exciting thing happened to me today

I was robbed in Recoleta on Libertador near the law faculty. I saw a group of 4 teenagers walking towards me but two of them were girls, so I didn't think they were anything to worry about. They started asking me for directions and then next thing one of the guys puts a knife in my face. In...

    Has Bariloche Recovered?

Does anyone know what the ash situation is in towns near Bariloche? In general, is the ash just in big piles here and there or is it still blanketing the landscape? If I visit the general area hoping to see beautiful mountain lakes am I just going to see gray muddy water and ash covered...

    How come?

This is the internet. 95% of it is either porn or people complaining about something.

    How come?

Are they? One of my Argentinian students is about to go to Spain for a month for an internship. The amount of paperwork she has had to do is incredible. Notarized letters of introduction, housing, employment, etc. It's crazy.
