When Will The Peso Hit 10?

Getting back to the original thread - did anybody notice a drop-off on the blue today? Seems that today was the first day I saw an increase in the spread from the dolarblue.net to what was quoted on the streets. Not sure if the rate on the site is not being updated after what happened Friday, or...

    Safe Blue Place?

fried turkey, remember to charge him the official rate and not the blue rate when you're quoting him :D

    Safe Blue Place?

The market is up and running as usual today. Had to stop by Florida today and heard the usual "cambio, cambio" - and switched out some more dollars with no problems.

    Going To Colonia, Uruguay

jeff's math is almost right. You've excluded the fee for Xooming to Uruguay - $17, and the Colonia fare at the Messi dollar is $50 USD. So $1,067 for the trip to Colonia (and you lose half a day - take the 0900 there and the 1600 back on Colonia Express), vs. $1,280 for local. That's $213 USD...

When Will The Peso Hit 10?

I have to wonder who the hell is on the other side of these currency trades... they're going to lose their shirts.

    Safe Blue Place?

Out of curiosity, what's the concern with exchanging on Florida? I've seen a few people voice concerns, and I don't understand it. Florida's been great to me - always get 20 centavos off the daily blue with no problems... The other stories I've heard of people getting into cars and exchanging...

    Going To Colonia, Uruguay

Xoom I believe has a $2,999 limit per day - I didn't test the limits (this was more of a dry run). I'll update this thread if I end up doing another run for more money. The branch on Gral Flores was very nice (I've been to some really shady wire transfer joints) and they didn't seem like they'd...

    Going To Colonia, Uruguay

Yes, definitely. A city that bases its economy on tourism should definitely not allow tourists to pull cash from the ATM, lest they spend it in said tourist city.

    Going To Colonia, Uruguay

Was just there yesterday. I would give up trying to use the ATMs - each of the functional ones had a line at least 12 deep the whole day I was walking around (I arrived on the 1030 Colonia Express). You might have better luck if you overnight it - seems most people there were doing a single-day...

How Is The Dólar Blue Determined?

The blue rate is derived from blue-chip swaps. See http://www.investope...luechipswap.asp In this case, traders are buying sovereign bonds (denominated in dollars) with pesos here, then selling them in the States in dollars for an immediate profit. Whatever the current spread (e.g. profit) is...

Is The Global Entry System Worth Joining?

I've had it and used it for about a year now. It doubles as SENTRI for US/Mex crossings (huge!) The two downsides for it: I like collecting stamps in my passport and you no longer get the US entry one. Also, instead of waiting in line at immigration, you usually end up waiting in line for...

When Will The Peso Hit 10?

Gotta be by June. I'm only visiting for a short period of time, and surprised by how much it's jumped in the week I've been here! Started off at 8.8, now just got 9.35! At this rate, 10 in late May/early June seems pretty likely.

    Short-Term Visitor

Hey everybody - Just wanted to drop in and say hello :) I am visiting BsAs for about 10 days (with an eye for a longer return if I love the city) and was wondering if anybody knew any private tango lessons for guys? I realize I could go for the milongas and such, but I've been more of a...
