Imports, really feeling the pinch now

Are the import slowdowns depending on country of origin? I see lots of electronics from Brazil and Mexico here. Either they are easy to import or there is a large back supply. There must be some trade agreements with Brazil for example.

Imports, really feeling the pinch now

I am sure they are using some industrial wifi system, but basic wifi systems are available pretty much everywhere. I was sort of shocked how many they had at tech store. They were brands I had never heard of but assume they function. I am sure parts are hard to find though....

    The Argentine "personality"

In my experience, people here expect something to go wrong...they will get robbed, and everyone is out to screw them over. They expect it. (maybe because it does happen often) Even friends...even people you have dealt with for years are paranoid that everybody is out to get them. Trust is...

    Graffiti tour

I think the term is mural, "any piece of artwork painted or applied directly on a wall" graffiti is "sprayed illicitly on a wall" graffiti does not conger up art to me, just garbage

    Graffiti tour

Is this a joke or 1980? Is there a street garbage tour next?

    Newcomer beginning to have doubts

It is an adventure for sure. Do it. You will never know until you try. You can always go back... Cats should not be a big concern. Working might be harder. You can learn enough Spanish while you are here. Lots of expats here that barely speak Spanish.

    Unaffected Middle Class

Since I was changing banks, I only deposited 100 pesos to start the account. I figured it would take some time to get my debit card and things in order. I was called to pick my AMEX up at the bank one week later. My debit card arrived later in the mail (not sure why) So I had my credit card with...

Buying dollars legally gets even harder now

So you can still buy dollars worth 25% of your salary, that is not so bad. I mean if you are just buying for personal use or savings. If you have more money then I am sure you are using the black market anyway.

    Unaffected Middle Class

For me, Santander Rio. Asked me if I wanted a AMEX when I opened the account. I had it in a week, without proof of income. I thought it was weird but it has been nice to have a local credit card, you can play the game with installments and discounts. I was at HSBC for 4 years and they never...

    Unaffected Middle Class

Everyone I know working in Blanco, has a union of some type. It kind of comes with the job like insurance here. My friend do say that some unions are more successful than others. But basically they do raise salaries to cover inflation. I am not so lucky

Help finding food that tastes like home for the Argentina Independent

Brazilian Segafredo was available in all Discos and Carrefours, but not anymore. Every time I see it I buy 4 or 5 bags. The Lindt store was a mistake. No one was ever in that store. The candy was double the price of anywhere else. They might have had more types, but Lindt candy is available in...

Help finding food that tastes like home for the Argentina Independent

Actually you can still find all these things still here in BA, Carrefour and Disco still have these, but you may need to go to all of the location, to find them. And there are new things still trickling in... Carrefour in the Alcorta mall had most of them. Also the Carrefour on Beriti and...

Help finding food that tastes like home for the Argentina Independent

Inca cola is easy to find in Abasto in every restaurant and most chinos sell it. No shortage.

    Unaffected Middle Class

As far as I know, there are no restrictions with credit cards abroad, just debit cards and dollars. BTW, a bank here, gave me a Visa, Amex and huge line of credit and I don't have a job either. The never really checked if I had any money. So credit is really easy to get now in BA. Using 12...

Is sending a bomb via mail forcing someone? I always thought that people who use bombs are just cowards, and were actually scared of people. Ted was scared of people. He used a hoodie to send his bombs, never using force against people. All of his crimes were very anonymous. Your post about...

    Unaffected Middle Class

Maybe that is it. I just have no clue what people make. My neighbor is a teacher and his wife stays at home with the children. Does that mean they can afford a vacation to the states and still afford to live in Barrio Norte? I make dollars from the states and I see the difference. So teachers...

    Residency application

No Steve, I don't want to marry you. Assholes are plentiful here in BA, and you are not my type of asshole. There are much pretty ones here. The immigration process was not simple in the past and that was my point.
