One thing still cheaper than US

When I first arrived here in BA, I got really sick and my friend took me to a public hospital on Las Heras, since it was a Sunday morning. They took me in within minutes, found a doctor who spoke english for me and she did a blood test and an ultra sound, because I was convinced that I had...

One thing still cheaper than US

Nice comparison of cost of medical procedures in Argentina vs. US in the Washington Post. For me, medical access and costs are one of the thing great about Argentina. I have had nothing but good experiences here, but I am sure there are horror stories. I just have horror stories about the US...

    Correo

I've actually done the international post office thing for a package, but I don't think it is the same as "Carta Certificada". I think I will go to my local Correo and ask them, since this notice is really illegible. Thanks

    Correo

Yesterday I received a notice that Correo Argentino tried to deliver a "Carta Certificada" (I was home at the time indicated, so they didn't try very hard) This notice is mostly illegible, so I am trying to figure out what to do. The guy did check the box "retirar en el correo" but the rest is a...

    Gay Couple considering Bs As

Being gay in BA is not much different than any big city. There are stupid people here too, but more people are tolerant than stupid. My partner and I have never had any problem in BA. being gay. More problems with being gringos. It was a dream for me to move to BA, but not anymore, reality sets...

New DNI is not required for perm residents

I would think that at some point everyone would need to go to the new DNI, otherwise what is the point of issuing a NEW DNI. While some people in the government seem to be confused about the whole thing, I doubt they allow the old DNIs to be used forever.

    New DNI Required?

It makes sense that we would need to move to the new DNI at some point. You don't go to 25 de Mayo anymore, it has improved sort of, now you go Hipólito Yrigoyen 952 look here for more info. http://www.migraciones.gov.ar/accesible/?dni_extranjeros Good luck

    One way tickets out

The cheapest round trip ticket is around 1360, with Delta, but they charge 60 for the second suitcase and 200 for third suitcase. At least LAN allows two suitcases free and the third for 120, so that figures into the price as well. I will look into TAM and let you know.

    One way tickets out

Hi, I am trying find a ticket to US in May (Charlotte, NC). Since I am not coming back to BA anytime soon, I would like to save some money and buy a one way ticket. Of course one way tickets are usually 300 dollars more than round trip tickets. I am carrying extra luggage too, so I was...

    Palermo vs Recoleta

Recoleta has much more than Palermo and less ex-pats. Certain parts of Palermo could be part of Manhattan, and not is a good way.

Get your SUBE Card Now, or Pay More for Transport

Not sure what new information they could hack for, all the personal information that you give for the SUBE card is already online. DNI numbers, names, and addresses, not a really a secret in Argentina. (which has always bothered me a little) Maybe they were hacking the admin parts... Anyway if...

    Tango Shows in BA

I second the recommended "Cafe Tortoni" show, I took my parents and we loved it. It was reasonably priced compared to the other ones we looked at. Plus you can order food or drinks if you want.

Which bank to open an account with?

HSBC was good for me, but Santander Rio gave me a credit card with little or no problem, I have had an account with HSBC for 4 years or more, and generally I like them better, they are less crowded and seem to be more professional. However they did not give me a credit card...

Tin Foil, Saran Wrap, or Ziploc

ziploc bags are available here but not the same as the US, the quality sucks. I bring Glad Wrap and Reynolds wrap from the US, not exciting but it is a reality.

I was a member when it first came to Argentina, but after a couple of weeks the selection was so limited, cable movies were more impressive. Maybe they have changed but from what Lee says I doubt it.
