can anyone recommend a spanish school?

I can recommend one to avoid -- Expanish. Though the teaching was adequate, the place is hugely overpriced and attracts mainly American teens and early-twentysomethings who want to continue their US campus life in Buenos Aires. As a result the school treats everybody like they are 14 years old...

    Time Out Buenos Aires?

Time Out comes out yearly and can be found at most streetside newspaper/magazine stands. It's not great, to be honest, and you'll have better luck reading local blogs and looking at the weekend editions of La Nacion for art listings.

to all you animal lovers, real tear jerker!

Doesn't look pretty, agreed. Unfortunately it'll probably take a nasty accident (which is almost inevitable when unpredictable animals like tigers are so close to equally unpredictable humans) for the owners to rethink their strategy. Just to clarify, this is the zoo in Lujan and isn't the...

    Practising spanish

http://conversationexchange.com Join this site - it's free, and allows you to search for local people in any city to practice the language. I've met a lot of people via this site on "intercambio de idioma" deals. One thing worth mentioning -- apparently a lot of Argentine guys use intercambios...

    New to BsAs

We should meet on the terrace, first person there grabs a table. It's usually pretty busy so be on the lookout for confused looking types. Alternatively, we could meet underneath the giant rubber tree right beside the cafe.

Book swap: looking for Cortázar's "Hopscotch"

As the city's really laying on the tributes thick to Julio Cortázar on the 25th anniversary of his death, I thought it a good idea to read his most celebrated novel, Hopscotch, or Rayuela en español. Does anybody have a copy they could loan me? I saw it in Walrus Books in San Telmo for $85...

any suggestions on hostels here in BA?

A couple of personal recommendations: Sandanzas - small, very friendly hostel in San Telmo run by a group of artists and social workers. Really excellent place, relaxed, very knowledgeable staff who know not just about 'touristy' things but are experts on the history, politics, and culture of...

    Looking for short-term flatshare

Can't recommend anything specific, but I found a one-month sublet in a room in a shared apartment last year on the BsAs Craigslist site: http://buenosaires.es.craigslist.org/roo/ Also, even if they don't specifically say for one month only, it's worth explaining your situation as they might...

Best place to buy cables, cords, etc

Looking for a particular cable / cord for my camera's charge unit, as the old one broke. Is there a recommended place with a good selection? The one I'm looking for is pretty standard, but I'd rather buy in person here in BA than order off the internet so I can check to see if it's identical...

    Just arrived

Is this an all American affair? If not I'd like to come along too... I'm British but lived for a few years in Canada, which is (though they're loathe to admit it) almost a part of the States.

They've just relaunched their website, too, offering all their print content online, archived and searchable. Great stuff.
