Tesol/tesl/tefl English Teacher Certification- Worth It??

Unless it's a Trinity or Cambridge CELTA it won't even be worth $69. Those two providers include assessed teaching practice which is why they charge around $1000. No school in the world will care a hoot about a TEFL Cert, which doesn't include assessed teaching. You may as well not bother.

    Farewell Buenos Aires

Judging by the look of Rio del Plata I'd say that's a good thing :-) I'm not in Buenos Aires anymore, I'm now soaking up the sun in Moscow, but I think the restaurant food in Buenos Aires and also Patagonia was among the best I've ever had, and also among the best value. And I'm not talking...

Rental Apartment Robbery In Palermo Hollywood

It took me a long time to develop the habit, but now, whenever I go out, I concentrate on the action of locking the door. I don't allow myself to think about anything else, or daydream or anything. Then, when I'm 5 minutes down the street and thinking 'Did I lock that door?' I know I did.

    Farewell Buenos Aires

Personally no. I think if an intelligent person lives for a year or two in another country he or she will probably have a better idea of how to solve its problems that the locals. Give expats credit where it's due. We move to new countries, integrate with the culture, learn the language and...

    Crime---again....

Although I'm back in England now, I recently lived for five months in Downtown (Montserrat) and commuted 6 days a week to Monte Chingolo in Zona Sur. This commute involved either taking the train from Estacion Constitucion to Estacion Lanus and then a bus, or the 37 bus all the way. My employers...

    Renewing a Visa

I always feel uneasy about the advice to 'wait until you leave and pay the fine'. As I mentioned in an earlier post, I was on a bus to Puerto Madryn a couple of months ago and the bus was stopped and boarded by police. All ID and passports were checked. I'd done my run to Colonia a few weeks...

    Visa expiry options

There's been a few posts here about your options when your 90 days is up, ie go to Colonia, go to Migraciones or simply wait until you leave and pay the fine. I've always felt uneasy about the last option but something that happened to me last week proved my point. I was on a bus heading for...

    Hi There, Arriving Soon

I agree you seem very well-set to have a great time. About making friends though - have to say it's not easy. You can meet people through this forum, but I found that you have to take the bull by the horns - don't wait for an invitation, take the initiative, plan something yourself and invite...

visiting again in October, 10 days: good idea? or go to Uruguay?

Nice! That must be a record for this forum, for it to get nasty on the first page, it usually takes 3 or 4. But then a recent suggestion of mine to try and keep this forum positive was shot down... BA Visitor, I recommend that you come here for the whole 11 days. Don't let the negative hype put...

    Getting books...in English!

I went to KEL for the first time on Sunday, to the Alto Palermo store, and was quite impressed actually. I thought it compared well with other English language sections I've seen in other foreign cities. Anyway it's beyond doubt the best source of NEW books in English in Buenos Aires. Here's a...

    Document scanning where in Palermo?

Absolutely. I had to scan a contract page that had my bank details on it! Before going to the locutorio, I blacked the details out with a board marker, but when I held the doc up to the light, the details could still be seen, so in the end I cut that part off. You should ALWAYS ask for the...

Where can I buy a towel?

I'm luck I suppose as mine fits perfectly, and also has one other ideal design feature. It has a concave top surface so when you turn the tap on you get a fountain effect of cold water in the face. Perfect for those early mornings

    Full-time English teacher needed

I have to leave BA soon. The English teaching job I'm leaving is in Lanús Este: around 23 hrs pw, and Lima (in Constitución), 5-6 hrs pw. I have no say over who gets employed or not, I'm just trying to help the school out. They're reliable and honest and will look after you. I'll happily pass...
