There's been a few posts here about your options when your 90 days is up, ie go to Colonia, go to Migraciones or simply wait until you leave and pay the fine.
I've always felt uneasy about the last option but something that happened to me last week proved my point. I was on a bus heading for Puerto Madryn to do some whale-watching and about 100km from Madryn, the bus was stopped and boarded by police with sniffer dogs. Two guys were taken off and presumably searched. I had to show my passport which thankfully had an in-date stamp.
I don't think "Yes I know my visa has expired but I was planning to pay the fine when I leave." would have gone down too well.
My advice: the choice between Colonia or Migraciones depends a lot on your personal circumstances but always have an in-date visa.
