    Without Argentina

History shows as a general rule that when you tell political leaders: "anything is better than this!" they will give you precisely what you asked for: cualquier cosa. I have mentioned NAFTA above as an example, since it is the poster-child for trade agreements: it had the unique effect of...

    Without Argentina

OK so let me restate your original point then: Finally Finally! Brazil and Uruguay are moving ahead without Argentina in negotiations towards a trade agreement with the EU that no one knows what it will look like, but given overwhelming past experience (NAFTA, CAFTA, TPP...) it will have...

    Without Argentina

Sounds like mind reading to me. That Lula, Rousseff and the PO in general are in favour of (and heavily implementing) anti-Keynesian austerity in a recession is a matter of basic facts. What their intimate fears are, however, is a matter for folks with magic 8 balls and Ouija boards. That...

PM Montauk_Project. She's got a production company here in BA and has produced /directed several films.

    Without Argentina

A couple of questions and an observation: 1. How do we know this is indeed a free trade agreement as indicated in the article? In the case of other pending "trade" agreements such as the trans-pacific partnership (TPP) or past agreements such as NAFTA, they could in no way be classified as...

Is Brazil On A Come Back?

Yes why aren't the Chinese building the new rail line from Sao Paolo to Argentina's Pacific coast? Only Argentina's government would be dumb enough to let neoliberal impediments like geography block China's Drang Nach Meer.

    Donating To The Poor Suggestions.

One suggestion of many: check with the Catedral San Jorge on Scalabrini Ortiz (011 4776-2283). There has been a huge influx into Argentina of refugees from Syria, which is probably the most dire humanitarian situation at the moment. Since the Catedral was founded by Arabic immigrants, they have...

    Expats In Salta?

Monday or Tuesday should be fine. Serafina said she might be up here then too, so it would be good to coordinate with her too. So many visitors I feel like the Kaaba!

    Expats In Salta?

Awesome, instead of Coffee Chat we can have Coca Bica Chat! AFAIK, it's just me up here. GMXam if you coordinate the time/attendees I can help pick a spot and/or set up the reservation.

Relocating To Salta, Cordoba Or San Luis

Valergal, I live in Salta, and I am not sure why extreme weather would be a concern unless you are thinking of living in the Altiplano. The suburban areas around Salta Capital are much more mild climate-wise than BA (not to mention Canada) and would seem to fit all of your criteria. Same could...

    Inflation In L.a.

Are you seriously comparing 20-40% inflation with 2500% inflation? That's just nuts. But don't change the subject: how long would your peg last, and how would you get out of it? Edit: OK sorry I just saw your answer. In the first three years of convertibilidad, as expected, a 3% trade surplus...

    Inflation In L.a.

If you peg the currency, inflation will be eliminated in a matter of weeks. How long would you need to keep it in place to prevent the currency from returning to its previous value?

    Inflation In L.a.

In the case of China, it's the exact opposite: it's an implicit currency policy that deliberately keeps the RMB undervalued compared to the dollar, whereas in Argentina the peg was to keep the Peso overvalued. The net results are the Chinese have a huge trade surplus while Argentina ended up...

    Inflation In L.a.

Bingo. I'm not sure how this jives with your proposal for a dollar peg. It was the dollar peg that eliminated inflation here and destroyed Argentine industry, pushing over half the country (53%) into poverty. Furthermore I'm not sure if you are serious or are just trolling, because it takes...

    Inflation In L.a.

OK is it just a coincidence that the same policies are being implemented now in Europe with the same effects?

    Inflation In L.a.

What novel ideas. Just coincidentally, Argentina already tried all of those out in the 90s and they led to the greatest economic disaster in its history. Try again.

    Maximo For Presidente...candidate?

You'll be surprised at the thunderous rush of FpVers to mark their ballots for Scioli in a runoff versus Macri or Binner.

    Inflation In L.a.

These are all good points and I dont think anyone would dispute them. I have yet to hear anyone say that excessive inflation-- such as Argentina's-- is healthy.
