Rent Control: Learning from Argentina and the Netherlands

Nope. It increased supply (though I imagine owners desperate for income had that effect too), but like everything else rent is more expensive.

Going back to the US soon. Anything I should know about my computer?

Is it a laptop or desktop? If it's a laptop, just like elhombresinnombre said, you're likely fine since 90%+ of all electronics are dual rated, just check on the power supply brick for 100-240, while if it's a desktop you can check by opening the PC case and see the PSU label like the following...

Milei promises good times lie ahead

That rally and the BBQ in Olivos really does The Proud: Meet the new boss, same as the old boss. Watching Mileistas defend the very behavior they previously criticized Cristina for has been interesting.

What's the reality of safety in Buenos Aires?

The amount of scammers is crazy here, I made it easy to filter them out by saying we'd meet in front of the comisaria near my old apt when selling user goods. Also, always cash only, and avoid dollars if you can as the number of fakes are very high, someone tried paying me with fake ones before...

A bit lost: Applying for a Family reunification visa, Radex application next?

It only takes about 3-4 months to go from Precaria to DNI as the spouse of an Argentine. In the middle of COVID even it only took me 4.5 months

Anyone married to an Argentine citizen?

I am, along with several other members.

Milei’s Austerity Ravages a Factory Hub at the End of the World

I know I say this annually whenever we talk about these "factories" in TDF, but I have no sympathy for the Caputos, only the workers. These are basically, as I have said previously, the IKEAification of Samsung phones. All the parts are made in Vietnam or China or Korea, and they are sent to...

A bit lost: Applying for a Family reunification visa, Radex application next?

Yeah, they're lying to you. Glad to see that incompetence persists post-Alberto. You're supposed to take exams to work in the foreign service here, but immigration law is one of the areas the consulate employees are least competent in. Anyways, I think Ronnie is the only person I've (digitally)...

A bit lost: Applying for a Family reunification visa, Radex application next?

Your best approach is to simply enter Argentina as a tourist on your Dutch passport, and while here, schedule a turno with migraciones, via Radex, to do the procedure to get a DNI. I don't know why the consulate is even bothering, they must be bored/looking to justify their jobs because normally...

Power Cuts in the Summer: A contingency plan is being made with planned brownouts

I'd like a PH in CABA (so we could have a pool and parilla, plus I really don't like gated communities/HOAs), but we can't afford it, and the most accessible option ironically ended up being a pre-development in a barrio privado in GBA. It has let us pay lump sums over several months when we...

That sounds like Argentina to a T; de jure v.s. de facto

US Embassy: presidential election voting reminder for citizens in ARG

Coincidentally enough, Argentina's elections are the only ones I vote in these days despite being able to vote in the US and Canada. One of the main reasons I'm naturalizing is to be able to vote here for president (or more likely, en blanco) but at least candidates run here that I can tolerate.

Power Cuts in the Summer: A contingency plan is being made with planned brownouts

Article in Spanish, but it looks like government is expecting there to be brown and blackouts again this summer. Despite Milei thinking climate change is a communist hoax, I guess it's good that they're letting people know in advance that things are expected to be bad in January and February...

Once-bustling Buenos Aires restaurants hustle for customers

Exactly what I was gonna say Rich; people are name dropping the richest neighborhoods in the country and wondering why restaurants there are full; same reason people rob banks, it's where the money is (and in the case of Palermo and Recoleta, tourists too). I live downtown and restaurants are...

DNI - which country for background check?

I think people overestimate both how competent Migraciones is, and how many resources they have/desire to do a thorough job. They literally gave PR status to, and eventually helped 2 Russian spies obtain citizenship with that couple and their kids in Slovakia or Slovenia IIRC; they aren't...

Is there an Uber app for fletes?

How big are we talking? You can send smaller sized things via Cabify, I've done it, but like, large items it's probably best to go with Via Cargo, I've had okay experiences with them.

    Citizenship

I finally have some updates: After starting the process in 2021, I will naturalize almost 3 years to the day later, and my juramento is scheduled soon. I did the process myself, no intervention from third parties, but you could probably shave a 6-8 months off if you didn't get COVID twice...

DNI - which country for background check?

IIRC you're supposed to include a background check for each country you've lived in for like 6 months or more in the last 3 years (don't quote me), but I also know they only generally care about your country of birth, even if you haven't lived there in years. I remember this being a thing for...
