My friend has been granted citizenship to Argentina after 2 years and 1 month. Faster than I’ve heard of..

Perhaps it goes without saying, @Bajo_cero2 made it happen. I thought the process had gotten more tedious!

Can you give some more info on your friend:

Did your friend get residency first? temporary, permanent?
Is your friend married to an argentine?
Is your friend's last name "latino"?
Is your friend working en blanco in argentina? working en negro? not working?

No residency. Overstayed. Single. European (non spanish speaking) country. Local income, but only applied with proving income from abroad.

The problem with the overstay strategy is that many countries ask you to declare if you have overstayed. So it could impact your visa applications to other countries (if you are honest). For example, Australian tourist visa asks this question.

The advantage is you do not get a deportation order and you do not need to lie because since you apply for citizenship you cannot overstay as an undocumented citizen.

I finally have some updates:

After starting the process in 2021, I will naturalize almost 3 years to the day later, and my juramento is scheduled soon. I did the process myself, no intervention from third parties, but you could probably shave a 6-8 months off if you didn't get COVID twice during it like I did, delaying appointments and such, but still assume 2-3 years currently as the secretaria told me the courts are flooded with people soliciting citizenship, I assume COVID backlog + Russians/Ukrainians + Venezuelans.

I guess my question for those who went ahead of me in CABA are:

- Did you get your certificate the same day as your juramento?
- How'd getting the new DNI go? Did you get a turno or go straight to Renaper? I'd like to not wait weeks/months, especially given the closeness to holidays to get it/my passport
- What series DNI did you guys get? Do we go from 9X.XXX.XXX ---> I don't know, 51.XXX.XXX or something?
- Did your CUIT/L change? I saw I can do a CUIT/L unification at ANSES
- How was changing your DNI with banks/utilities/etc.
- What size is the certificate? I want to get a frame for it

- How'd getting the new DNI go? Did you get a turno or go straight to Renaper? I got an express turno on Av. Colon.
- What series DNI did you guys get? I got 19.xxx.xxx
- Did your CUIT/L change? I saw I can do a CUIT/L unification at ANSES. Yes and yes
- How was changing your DNI with banks/utilities/etc. Awful. MercadoPago was particularly bad.
- What size is the certificate? I want to get a frame for it. Not sure, sorry, it's rolled up somewhere in the stuff we moved to the new house.

I got my Carta the same day as my juramento.
I don't remember the details of getting the DNI. Delivery was an issue but I think I picked it up at the post office in the end.
My new DNI starts with 19.x.
I never had a CUIT/L before this (at least to my knowledge) so I didn't have to change it.
I never updated my bank account to the new DNI. Still open to this day. La viveza criolla.
My Carta is 8 1/4 inches by 11 11/16 inches. That's 8.25 x 11.6875 inches. Probably accurate to 1/16".

If you had a previous DNI, you go later to registro civil with both DNI + the carta de ciudadania and you ask for an auto de identidad where they testify that both numbers belong to the same person but the last is the valid one.
Nowadays RENAPER is too picky with the finger print at the carta, so, follow up your DNI on line and if you see no movements, go to the Court for a new set of fingerprints but ask for all of them and go back to RENAPER without new appointment or application.

Your new DNI will have your previous PR DNI printed on the back of the card, so in theory it should be no problem to change your various accounts to the new one, but in practice, oh dear... Welcome to your brave new world
