    Awful rental situation

I'm not sure what time period you're looking for, but I see 147 2Br/2Ba apartments (or larger) available in December for less than U$D 1800. Not that that's a lot, but it's more than 20. I think the AirBnB market tends to favor smaller units anyway.

    Restaurants - Dietary Restrictions/Allergies

I have a friend coming to visit later this year who, for health reasons, can't eat garlic or onions (or leeks, or shallots, etc.). She can eat food that's been prepared in the same kitchen, but can't eat food that has those vegetables in it. Any advice on restaurants that might be able to...

    Emergency dentist cost

I wish I had found this post before going to DAS! I got a crown from them (necessary? who knows!) and a filling where they weren't going to let me have any painkillers. When I insisted on being numbed halfway through the procedure, the dentist didn't want to wait for it to kick in, so the...

Finding a great 3 month rental apartment

I could get behind the inspection piece, but I will say it can be really hard ($$$, which lots of cities don't have to spare) for cities to be able to monitor that short term rentals in their jurisdiction are all licensed. It's a lot of listings to go through, even though there are services to...

    Money transfer issue anyone?

Our long-delayed WU bank-to-bank transfer eventually got refunded a couple of weeks later. Not sure what happened there, but Santander said it never made it to the bank. 🤷‍♀️ Funny how these things can be so hit-or-miss!

    2 Months in BA

I don't know about "must-see", but for day trips outside the city, I've been really impressed with how far you can get on the light rail system here. The Laguna de Chascomus comes to mind as a transit-accessible trip. And I'm not Catholic, so I'm not sure how meaningful this sort of sightseeing...

Finding a great 3 month rental apartment

For context, in my day-job I work as a housing policy planner in the US, so that definitely influences my feelings. The short version: I don't think short-term rentals are bad in every context -- I've known people who rented out their guest room as a supplement to their farming income in areas...

    equivalent to Craigslist or Nextdoor?

If you're looking for the garage-sale-esque parts of Craigslist, I think MercadoLibre could be what you're looking for.

Finding a great 3 month rental apartment

As much as I dislike AirBnB as a company, if you'll only be here for three months, they're probably your best option. If you want to go through the process of coordinating apartment viewings and potentially having to pay your rent up-front in physical US cash, we used ZonaProp...

    Money transfer issue anyone?

My Western Union transfer from this past Thursday is still showing on WU as delivered, but Santander hasn't put it into my account. In contrast, did a Remitly transfer for AR$ 590k yesterday evening and it took about half an hour to successfully show up in my Santander account. 🤷‍♀️ WTF, WU.

    Student visa requirements

My understanding from talking to local universities is that it's both your diploma and transcript that get apostilled, translated, and certified. The translator has to be an official translator, so you'd have them apostilled first in your home country, then translated by the official...

    Money transfer issue anyone?

I made my first WU transfer to a new Santander account yesterday and have been anxiously refreshing the online banking system waiting to see it go in. No luck yet -- is this 24 hour timeline for WU transfers typical?

    Money transfer issue anyone?

No, you can only use Wise to transfer to a bank account. I was already in Argentina and didn't have a DNI when I opened a Wise account, though, to answer that part of the question.

    Money transfer issue anyone?

I tried using Wise this morning and got an error before I tried sending, saying that they're not able to send transfer ARS at the moment.

    Medical expenses in Buenos Aires

I went in for a single appointment for treatment by an ENT at Hospital Aleman without being a plan member -- I don't remember what it was in pesos at the time, but it was equivalent to around U$D 25.

2000 USD per family member for residency application?

Savings won't offset the requirement, for sure. If I understand correctly you do have to prove "financial stability" for the investment visa, and they might be saying that that's the amount required these days to prove that. It's certainly the requirement under rentista. If it were up to me...

Belgrano Day School or Lincoln School?

There have been some other conversations about this in the past, this one seems to have the most input: https://baexpats.org/threads/lincoln-school-or-belgrano-day-or-arco-iris.25956/

Applying to UBA / Temporary Residency / VISA Q

For what it's worth, if transferring makes you jump through too many hoops, you might have noticed that UBA-FADU has a two-year planning masters. Could be easier to apply when you're not currently a student. Also: hello from another urban planner! I'm working remotely for a US company at the...

Where to find unfurnished rentals without recibo de sueldo or garantía?

That was not the experience I had in pursuing Garantia insurance.

Where to find unfurnished rentals without recibo de sueldo or garantía?

When we were looking recently, some places offered that we could buy garantía insurance since we're in a similar boat (foreign income, no local fam., no property). It's not cheap, and on top of the fee they'll hold like six months of rent until the end of your contract, but it might be an option.
