The New Head Of Banco Nacion

Although I don't agree with the attitude, Bajo is actually winning this discussion.

    Presidential Transition

This article cites a previous instance of dual-exchange-rate correction and its consequences; exactly what we were pondering the other day, Gringoboy.

Macri: The 11 Of December There Will Be One Dollar

I want this image replicated into a mosaic on my bathroom ceiling, à la Michelangelo's Creation of Adam.

Macri Our Saviour One And Only One Dollar...?

I think Argentines would continue hoarding dollars under the mattress even with the collapse of global society and hordes of 'walkers' outside the window.

Macri Our Saviour One And Only One Dollar...?

Time to stock up on canned food! And wine.

Macri Our Saviour One And Only One Dollar...?

I think something that everyone needs to understand in this country is that we have all been living on borrowed money, more exactly borrowed value of our peso. All this prosperity we see in the restaurants and stores and cars on the street hasn't been paid for with true value, but borrowed...

Macri Our Saviour One And Only One Dollar...?

Has there been any precedence of a devaluation, lifting of a 'cepo', like this before? In Argentina or abroad, it would be reassuring to have a picture of what to expect.

    Election In A Nutshell

It is an artificial rate — it is pegged. They adjust the peg to keep up appearances. Left alone the peso would be at 18-20 to the dollar, as it is at the borders.

    Election In A Nutshell

The peso was pegged to dollar in the 90's to stop it losing value. Today it is pegged at 9.5 pesos to the dollar to stop it devaluing to the blue or beyond — seems quite similar to me.

    Election In A Nutshell

She makes a good observation in that article. With Kirchnerites attacking Macri for supposédly wanting to implement Neoliberal policies of the 1990's, how is today's official dollar tied to 10 pesos so different from the pegged dollar 20 years ago?

    The Kiss And Hug Greeting

Scientists have just released a study on the culture of intimate contact. “We hadn’t expected the Finns to turn out to be the most cuddly people,” Dunbars says, “or that the Italians are almost as uncuddly as the Brits.”...

    Election In A Nutshell

Reminds me of an El Queso post some years ago. Yes, that was awful, as well as C5N's conduct that night. It is a perturbing illustration of how state apparatus, that in order to function democratically needs to do independently, is in fact, under this government, not independent at all.

    This Is Argentina

Not to defend just Scioli, but also potentially Vidal, but province is a beast to manage. It has three-eighths of the electorate, a larger population than all but seven of 50-odd European countries (or four of the 50 US states). As the nation’s powerhouse for both industry and agriculture, it...

    Election In A Nutshell

I think it will have to be a collective effort from a united Argentina, Peronist and non-Peronist alike, to put Argentina back on the right track. Not just politically, but socially and institutionally to boot. I'm innately positive about a change of government, but I don't think we will be...

    Election In A Nutshell

More rumours abound that Massa is to formally deal with Macri and Scioli to withdraw in coming days. I personally don't see Massa dealing though. He has more to gain by keeping his ideology intact (by not dealing with non-peronists), waiting four years and cleaning up any potential mess on his...

    Another Great Conspiracy Theory

The rumour was it was over some escalation with Maximo's drug taking — ejecting heroin into his knee. There was more but I don't remember. The rumour supposedly diffused from the military guarding the house that night who heard a gunshot before being denied entry by Xtina, before allies could...
