I've heard that same rumour, under the circumstances described in the article, from military friends some years ago.
It's too easy to exhume the body to attribute his demise to heart attack or otherwise for the true cause of death to be hidden though. Conspiracy theory most likely, yes.

All the article says is that they allegedly had an argument.

The rumour was it was over some escalation with Maximo's drug taking — ejecting heroin into his knee. There was more but I don't remember.
The rumour supposedly diffused from the military guarding the house that night who heard a gunshot before being denied entry by Xtina, before allies could arrive to tidy up.

Nestor was a big chap though, his head would have made a large rapport hitting that bedside table.
