The pandemic: The view after 5 months

I think the argument about whether the old are worth saving (and whether that is what was meant to be said) is a bit of a distraction from a larger point, which is that with decent management - and some adjustments to the routines of life on everyone’s part - you can have your cake and eat it...

Not Happy Here, Easy buy a Nationality 12 Country Options

Well, some of us opted to go back... not a moment too soon. Comparing our COVID experience up here and what would have likely been our situation in Argentina, I can only say that we dodged a bullet. Getting permanent residence for my better half just got a hell of a lot more complicated, we...

Argentina re-opening international flights in August!

This is not quite accurate as concerns Argentina: the country-specific advisory is the strictest level: Level 4 - Do Not Travel. Other countries with such a distinction include Afghanistan, North Korea, Russia and the like (but also: Mexico, Brazil, Peru etc). How much politics influences this...

The Argentinian consulate in Lima gave me some sort of residency

Is the fecha X-X-2019 on or around when you submitted your Radex application? It definitely looks like you were approved on May 7 as a permanent resident. If their computers say so, doubtful you’ll be rejected at EZE - but who the hell can truly know.

The Argentinian consulate in Lima gave me some sort of residency

In my days (pre-Radex), it was much much simpler. Getting the documents was a serious PITA, because my home country doesn’t do apostilles there was a bit of running back and forth between authenticating agencies and Argentine consulates. But once I had all the papers in hand - duly legalized...

The Argentinian consulate in Lima gave me some sort of residency

If you have a DNI, that means you reside in Argentina. Ergo you can enter the country.

The Argentinian consulate in Lima gave me some sort of residency

That sounded... anti-climactic. Here’s wishing you that the family issues resolve themselves in a similarly anti-climactic - but satisfactory and satisfying - manner.

    6,337 New Covid-19 Infections 7/30, Extended Quarantine..?

I’m not sure where you’re going with this. 1. The DNU is if I understand correctly not creating criminality, it is invoking (or activating, if you will) the provisions that already exist in article 205 of the Criminal Code concerning contraventions of measures enacted to prevent - or stop the...

    6,337 New Covid-19 Infections 7/30, Extended Quarantine..?

I absolutely agree with your sentiments on the one hand, and completely dismiss them as rational arguments on the other. There is no way of separating the flexibility needed to battle a pandemic, from the capacity for overregulation. How “targeted” the regulations need to be, depends completely...

    6,337 New Covid-19 Infections 7/30, Extended Quarantine..?

I mean, I’m happy to dunk on both bajo and this government, but they both appear to be in the right here. The fact is that the plain text of the code makes clear that violating measures taken by the competent authorities to stop the spread of an epidemic, can indeed be punished with prison. It...

    6,337 New Covid-19 Infections 7/30, Extended Quarantine..?

Well, why wasn’t it used as the cure? It should be simple, right? Lock everyone up at home until they are no longer infectious, and you’re done, right? Well, turns out that that doesn’t work. People need to buy food. Other people need to make that food. Other people need to pay the first group...

    6,337 New Covid-19 Infections 7/30, Extended Quarantine..?

Yes. Many of my “recovered” family are still not quite back to themselves months later. And they are apparently the lucky ones. It seems it can be quite bad. This tweet is the first of a thread, quite a few of the responses are worth reading:

    6,337 New Covid-19 Infections 7/30, Extended Quarantine..?

This has to be the most Argentine quote ever. The total cluster^^^k that’s resulting from my gestion? Let’s just pretend that you won the election, not me. Voila! We all know how politicians in Argentina are so friendly as to just go 180° on a key issue because the opposition asked for it...

    Blue dollar rate

Just to think that barely 10 years ago, the initial fare when flagging down a taxi was 4.60. Four pesos sixty centavos. If you rounded up to the nearest peso, the driver was happy. Argentina is WILD.

    Bolsonaro has a 'little flu'

I will be surprised if it gets him. For all the blowhard that he is, there is a massive state machinery (that yes, he disses too) protecting him. Testing every person that gets close to him. That’s what all the fools who look after and/or emulate him don’t get. He’ll make sure he is fine, in a...

Argentina re-opening international flights in August!

Historically the market has not been able to support more than 2 flights to NYC per day. In 2011 or 2012 United switched their 2nd daily BUE flight from Washington to Newark. This lasted for a year or two, only once United withdrew from this market then Aerolineas Argentinas entered. In 2016...

Argentina re-opening international flights in August!

As to what is happening in Canada, I can report firsthand. I am currently in quarantine on account of having traveled to the US. You are not allowed into the country unless you demonstrate you have a quarantine plan (an address where you will reside, and means for getting necessities...

Policy regarding repatriated Argentine nationals and Permanent Residents

Canada requires 14 days of self-isolation, you are not allowed to leave home for any reason except to seek medical attention. They make the rounds periodically to check on people, in an unmarked car to boot. If you’re not complying with the rules, penalties can go to $750K and/or 6 months.
