Receive money in USD without a local bank account

No. It’s because “that’s what everyone else is doing”. Also known as: “the market has spoken”. In a market where liquidity is not guaranteed by the state (as in, banks have to take it), liquidity is defined by the market. I’m only interested in taking bills which I can offload easily to others...

    Flight to SCL tomorrow. Expensive.

This is not the flight I am talking about. I’m talking about chartering a (very) small plane. 1. If we’re talking about US citizens, and not in a hurry, you are correct. Essentially, what is happening here is that there is a group of people that are desperate, and looking for company. They...

    Flight to SCL tomorrow. Expensive.

You’re new here, that’s OK. Multiple people on this forum have worked with me. I’d like to think I’m a known quantity around here. PS Not happening today, gunning now for Monday-Tuesday.

    Flight to SCL tomorrow. Expensive.

I might have a few seats available on a flight tomorrow evening from EZE to SCL. There’s a connecting flight from there to Miami with LATAM. I expect the whole thing (including Miami) to cost about 3K USD. If you are willing to pay an absurd amount of money to get to Chile (and/or the US), get...

Is there a way to get USD in BA?

As I said before, I agree. You can make the argument that if you jaywalk, you are breaking the law, so may as well go work for John Gotti. Those of us, however, that cling to antiquated notions like not actually screwing people just because it’s possible, may balk at the comparison. As well...

Is there a way to get USD in BA?

I, for one, wholeheartedly support this idea. No reason to oppose the culture. I question only why draw the line there. Why not steal apples from the fruit store? The likelihood you will have charges pressed against you are very, very low. Most parks have older ladies out for a stroll...

    Phone In U.s.

What I neglected to mention is the reason I don’t think there’s much reason for concern: mainly, that your roaming is not really costing anyone money. Simple Mobile is part of Tracfone Wireless, which is in turn owned by America Móvil - owner of Claro.

    Phone In U.s.

Officially, yes. In practice, I have not heard of this happening much. And if they do, you’ll almost certainly get a warning first. You can then port the number out to another provider.

    Phone In U.s.

Simple Mobile. Needs to be activated in the US first. Then works perfectly in most of South America (roams on Claro network). When wifi is off, IP address is a US one. Bank of America now works with Google Voice. Finally.

No commercial flights until September 1st

I’d agree, but then again I didn’t envision it ever shutting down to begin with. We still don’t understand the situation enough to be able to plan responsibly.

Anybody else thinking the cure is worse than the disease?

I’m in NYC, and I can tell you that the calculus changes once a bunch of people you know is dead. UPDATE: Posted this much later than planned, see @Ries beat me to it.

Another Special Flight to the USA (Mar 31 at 9:30 am)

You will likely not be allowed to board a flight to Brazil without proof of an onward flight departing soon after.

Argentine wifes inches from getting the boot

There are many people who carry this virus and but are asymptomatic. This means that while they exhibit no symptoms, they can easily infect others. Hence what I originally wrote: “you are endangering each and every person you come in contact with. Hard no.” This applies equally to young and old...

Argentine wifes inches from getting the boot

It seems (is this the case?) that you are discussing a situation in which only the elderly are ordered to stay home. Your argument would then be that such a person is not endangering the public more than anyone else. If this is what you mean, then sure, I might see your point - likely subject...

Argentine wifes inches from getting the boot

This would be an interesting question if these persons could circulate without endangering anyone else they may come in contact with. This is not the case, so we need not delve into philosophy. If you are (or become) a carrier, you are endangering each and every person you come in contact with...

Wife really wants to go back to Argentina with kid

Is there any exception that can be made for immediate family of Argentine citizens? I know most countries allow it. Can anything be done on case by case basis? Have you contacted consular officials in Peru?

Argentine wifes inches from getting the boot

I don't think you got my point. I was not suggesting anything of the sort. Nor do I think China's initial reaction was defensible, though it likely would have changed little as far as the US is concerned.

Argentine wifes inches from getting the boot

Nobody knows what is going on in NYC. By which I mean to say that nobody knows the mortality rate as a percentage of people that are actually sick. I have firsthand knowledge of how inadequate the “confirmed cases” metric is. The true number of sick people may easily be 3x higher - or much...

    Psychological effects of the quarantine

There was a WhatsApp audio going around: “Mañana todos a las 9, a nuestros balcones. Para tirarnos.” In general humor is healthy. The meme explosion is a bit much, but is cathartic.
