How do people work out how much a property in Argentina is actually worth?

I recently went thru this when we moved. The prices are all over and a fair mkt price doesn't seem to exist due to lack of info on comps or recent sales. I understand that until recently, sales were off the books, partly or fully in black, to avoid or reduce tax. So only the parties involved...

Expat Job in Campana - how to buy/lease a car?

Scott I don't think leasing exists here. With the interest rate over 60%, it wouldn't make sense anyways. Come with cash to buy a car. Prices are almost double the US, look at mercado libre or autos com ar for prices. Make sure you will be paid in USD. Good luck!

    What Is Inflation?

People I talk to don't receive wage increases equal to inflation. Didn't teachers strike last year because their 20- something % raise was way short of inflation and price increases?

What Latin American Countries have normal, working mail service?

Which countries? In Argentina, I have a local friend who receives books from Amazon. He explained books are "allowed" while other products are not. I never followed up to understand what this meant, any ideas?

Fibertel & Throttling. Is It Just Me?

Don't have any hard data to demonstrate, but iTunes downloads are typically much slower for me than torrents or other. That was with a fibertel corporate account.

My wife (Argentinian) claims you can live "well" on $1500 a month in Argentina. True?

It was very easy to get US citizenship for my son born here 3 years ago. I found hospital care more personal and relaxed than US. Stay 3 or 4 days, not pushing you out the door after delivery.

Do you fear a crash similar to 2001?

It seems the market settled down as no new news came out after yesterday. Was a great morning to catch the short if you were in on Friday. SUPV was down 13% quickly but closed down 6%, so there was actually 7% upside if you timed it right. After the peso fell to an even 40.0, it held there...

    Moving to Argentina

Out of curiosity, where are you planning on going to school? I'm from US and did a MBA at ditella a few years back. The difference between a US university and a top level school here in terms of job placement/assistance was startling. Here there was 1 or 2 events per year, open house w a...

    Bringing new merch into Argentina

It's really hit or miss if they catch you or even care to look. They don't usually look at the customs forms. I've been "caught" 1 out if 32 times, had a new bike in its original box. Bought it last minute and didn't think to get a different value on the receipt, which would have helped...
