Baby joy for travelling couple who spent pandemic stranded in Mendoza

Where to stay in Miami? Miami Beach, Brickell, downtown or???

I do extended stays in Miami every year (even last year) and I've only ever rented a car in Miami so that I could drive to the Keys. Otherwise, whenever I'm in Miami I'm sans voiture, and it's no problem at all. Use the free/cheap public transportation or uber/lyft and Bob's your uncle.

Where to stay in Miami? Miami Beach, Brickell, downtown or???

Brickell does have some variety but it's more yuppie than anything else. Again, I'll say that - especially if you're not driving - the only three places worth being are Flamingo/Lummus on Miami Beach, that area of Edgewater around 27th and Biscayne, and north Brickell. No offense, Rich, but...

Where to stay in Miami? Miami Beach, Brickell, downtown or???

Bling in South Beach is at the big hotels, South of 5th, and a bit on Lincoln Road nowadays. Most of the rest is just great walkable smaller pre-war neighborhoods. Very beautiful, very nice place to ride a bike, very rich in amenities. Brickell is more workaday for sure, it has a lot of...

Where to stay in Miami? Miami Beach, Brickell, downtown or???

Argh, ran out of time to edit. Was going to add that if you're working remotely, the highrises in Brickell and Edgewater will have good internet, but if you're going the South Beach route, watch that you're not on a low bandwidth Atlantic Broadband connection.

Where to stay in Miami? Miami Beach, Brickell, downtown or???

Miami Beach, by a mile. Stay between Flamingo and Lummus parks (between 10th and 15th), so you can roll south and north for eats, take the trolley or walk to Publix/Joe's/Whole Foods, do morning swims in the ocean, and never be too far from transit. Friday and Saturday nights draw the thug...

New Law requires that 17 Dangerous Dog breeds be registered or face possible fines.

Beagles are anything but harmless. I dog sat a beagle one weekend and it was hell on earth. The thing totally deliberately destroyed everything it could, howled whenever I looked away from it, managed to figure out how to open the fridge and pull stuff out, the works. They should add them to...

    Closed stores

The more I think on it, the more is strikes me that Argentina is the dark future of the western world. The Europeans saw it first with their similarly ungovernable nations of Italy and Greece (once it returned to democracy). With Portugal, Spain, and even France tilting that way all through...

Israel summons Argentina's ambassador over anti-Israel UNHRC vote

Yeah, but what on earth is Argentina doing voting on something like this, other than to appease some goofy fringe? It's just some stupid political theater ordered by China and Russia or, worse, not even ordered or done for opportunistic reasons, but expected in the crew currently running the...

300m of railroad track stolen in tucuman

This crime is practically a form of terrorism against the state. The lines should be patrolled by Judge Dredd type law enforcement with the absolute right to vaporize these gangsters when they're discovered in the course of this sort of thing.

The Guardian: "Time to challenge Argentina’s white European self-image, black history experts say"

Which is about the number who would have checked the box by accident. Instead, the social "scientist" likes another study that looks not at what people report, but at projections of population DNA!! Does it make sense for a "researcher" to insist that Argentina "must" do anything about...

Argentina suspends beef exports for 30 days

That's completely moronic. The goofy "everything American is bad" attitude in South America is one of these great puzzles. Okay, so I'm an avid American beef-eater and I can tell you that here in California, the beef is amazing. But completely to one side of that, like, everything here is...

Budgeting for raising two children in a small pueblo

No chance on earth this guy is a 'troll.' I agree that Fiscal is sort of a dummy, but almost everyone I know makes enough money to fork over $4k/month to their girlfriend to raise some kids (if they have any), so that's no evidence at all. The money is less important than keeping her happy, as...

Requesting US residency for Argentine parent

You'll file in Argentina - traveling to the US on a tourist visa with the intent to adjust status is considered to be visa fraud, and can result in denial of your application and a ban from the US. The lawyer you talked to is right that it can be done, but you never know what sort notes...

Argentine Transportation Minister Dies Driving National Route 7 to Junín.

A tough blow. Probably the only minister in the entire government that was trustworthy, competent, and had a vision worth backing.

Beatnik Buenos Aires honors its artists to a fault

Given how important knowing something about Argentina is to understanding works by Argentine artists, I'm not sure I trust an African living in Chicago to provide much in the way of value in terms of a review of a work like that, but thanks for the notice, definitely worth a look.

Uruguayan President seizes Pfizer vaccines Argentine neglected

^ Took Sinovac first then got first dose of Pfizer? Pou saw a perfect opportunity to consolidate his position at the expense of both Argentina's reputation (already not great in Uruguay, as we all know) and the leftist elements in his own country that he can tie to Kirshnerism-style governance...

    Alberto Fernandez positive for COVID

If I were Fernandez, I'd worry more about a mysterious bout of thalium poisoning than I would about Covid-19.
