My recommendations for (decent) restaurants in BA.

What I'm confused about is where you've been reading that people like the food here! I've lived here for several years, and food complaining is THE number one favorite pasttime of expats. In general, the food really sucks. The sad truth. I wish the food were more like the food in Mexico...

    LAN Fall Fare specials

Hi all. Just came across this little ad from LAN advertising fall fare specials that look pretty good to the US for around $999 (+tax) to cities like LA, NYC and San Francisco. You have to travel before the end of the year and buy by sometime in Mid-October but for those of you wanting a trip...

    Pregnancy in Buenos Aires

CarverFan, can I ask who your (parto humanizado) doctor was? I also agree about lying about your LMP, particularly if you're sure when you ovulate. I lied about mine because I KNOW I ovulated on CD19, and that they would have marked me at CD14 (standard) and I'd have lost nearly a week of...

    Pregnancy in Buenos Aires

I know it's a shame (and a pain!), but thankfully the concession really isn't that bad--it's basically the one name broken into two parts but still spelled the same, and since they let you choose up to three names we can still choose a middle name too. When we get back to the States we'll...

    Cost of living

jb5, I think the general impression was that you were saying a good meal at a nice restaurant was $400 DOLLARS not pesos. In my post I wanted to clarify that you were talking pesos, as your figures if in dollars are astronomical. Also, I disagree that you can't find a nice apartment with a...

    Pregnancy in Buenos Aires

Just to add my two cents (and everybody's experience is different), if you go over 41 weeks here (and I think that's up to 41 weeks and 6 days, not 40 weeks and 6 days) they *induce*, but that doesn't necessarily mean they automatically go for a c-section. Unfortunately induction is a slippery...

    Tea?

Go to Casa China in Barrio Chino. They have two stores. You'll likely enter at Juramento and Arribeños. The first Casa China is on your right at 2173 Arribeños and another block down is a second (MUCH larger store, which I prefer) at 2257. I can't remember any specific brands of tea that...

    Tea?

You can find Twinnings and Celestial Seasonsings teas at most Coto/Disco/Jumbo stores, but the prices are still high (1-2 pesos/bag). I have never seen Tazo here (though it doesn't surprise me that Starbucks was carrying it), but Barrio Chino (Casa China) tends to have some good tea selections...

    Pregnancy in Buenos Aires

I don't think you're crazy (though I don't envy your position), but you may have trouble depending on the doctor and the plan that you end up with. Personally I'm not acquainted with Hospital Aleman or the doctors who work with them. I'm 37 weeks pregnant now and went with OSDE as a medical...

    Cost of living

Renting a temporary, furnished apartment shouldn't be a problem for him. Rents will be higher than with a garantia, but shouldn't be out of line. To get an idea of what's out there check out bytargentina.com or enbuenosaires.com or even craigslist. To find something good you have to dig and...

    Cost of living

Ohh, you can do fine for much less than $1200 in rent (probably find a nice furnished one bedroom for around $800-900/mo) and if you have an additional $900/mo for spending money you'll do fine here. Again you won't be able to travel much, but you'll live a decent quality of life for sure:)...

    Cost of living

Hi. There are several threads that can help you out with extensive info and recent conversations about COL in Buenos Aires. Here's a good one that should provide you with lots of information: http://baexpats.org/expat-life/15675-job-offer-buenos-aires.html?highlight=job+offer In my experience...

    Spice rack

My partner made one for me out of wood. Pretty simple if you're at all handy--buy a saw, nails, wood varnish and some hooks or wall mounts, and voila! As to the spice containers, we used old jars (nuecete olive jars, campagnola tomato paste jars, etc.) and labeled them.

    Limes $$

Ahh lovely limes. When limes are in season they're around 10/kilo, but I've only seen them lately for 20 and up! Pretty steep, but what I can't believe is the price of red bell peppers these days.

Where to take Pictures in BA?

Clari you can go into nearly any photo shop (Kodak, film development, etc.) and tell them what you need the photos for. Depending on what you're applying for the color of the background might change (for DNI it used to be blue, and then I think it changed to white) but just keep your eyes open...

How far will my money go in Argentina?

My two cents is that you'd have a very hard time as a single foreigner on that income here. You would absolutely have to rent a shared apartment, and while you could get away with the remaining money for food, going out and generally enjoying your time here (which is why I assume you want to...

    Sexist hiring BA style.

It's perfectly legal also to specify not only the gender that you're looking for, but an age and weight range too! Also, CVs include photos here.

Sofa, dinning room and beds for sale

Not to be a stickler... but furniture that has been used for a year is not "brand new". That said, good luck with your sales and your next chapter. I didn't have a lot of luck selling on BAExpats, but had no problems when I used Craigslist for listings. Also, it's a good idea to post prices...

Foods that could be produced here?

Cheese definitely!! Tomato juice is being produced by campagnola (sp) but it's not great quality--something along the lines of V8 juice is something that I know I would buy. There are already quite a lot of varieties of dried mushrooms that can be found here (barrio chino), not sure there's a...
