US/European style Head Hunter/Job Coach? (long)

Yes, both of the posts I have interviewed for have been with international companies, that is why the citizenship issue has never been an issue, aside from friends telling me that, as a general rule (as I guess might be the case in most countries) an Argentine with slightly less experience may...

US/European style Head Hunter/Job Coach? (long)

I arrived in Buenos Aires a little over a month ago with the intention of staying indefinitely as things back home (Madrid) aren't exactly a stroll in the park as far as finding employment and cost of living. Before moving to Buenos Aires, I also went back to the USA for 8 months, which is...

Can you still afford to live here?

Most steak places in the US would be considerably higher than even the better parillas in Buenos Aires and offer less quantity. I only eat out and I dont find food in general pricy. Individual sized pizzas can be had for around 20 pesos. Delivery/take out Chinese (appetizer of spring rolls +...

Can you still afford to live here?

I have never heard of a filet mignon dinner being $18 in the States, but then again I have only lived in Chicago, NYC and Miami, which may be more expensive than Seattle. As someone who has lived extensively in both European cities (originally from Madrid, also lived in Barcelona and London)...

Why does customer service here suck?

Has anyone encountered something like this: Yesterday I went to Clover in Microcentro and ordered the "Warsteiner special" with my friend (porteño).The deal is 30 pesos for 2 pints of Warsteiner. We drank a round, asked for the check and when we got it, it was 44 pesos. "Hmm, that is weird,"...

Anyone regret moving to b a

One particularity to Argentina: "middle class" here means you have some access to the consumer culture of the developed world but it is limited, i.e., you have an (old) computer, (cheap) cell phone, decent vacation (that you save all year for). You go out and have one or two drinks on the...

Anyone regret moving to b a

You will be more than fine on 16k USD a year here. I'm no expert, I have only been here for just over a month but you should be fine and actually be able to live beyond what I would deem ¨middle class¨ as far as some characteristics go, it just really depends what you prioritize on spending...

Why does customer service here suck?

Amargo, Being originally from Spain (Madrid), I would like to add my 2 cents on you saying that customer service sucks in Spain and Italy. While definitely not up to par with the USA, it has been my experience that albeit sometimes slower and not as sickly sweet as in the States, the...

Why does customer service here suck?

You are correct Phil, you are clearly spun from a more resistant moral fibre than this humble correspondent. How remiss of me to fall into an example of one of the very cultural misunderstandings to which I was referring. Whenever I am in such a sticky situation I find it helps to ask myself...

Why does customer service here suck?

Most of these problems can be put down to cultural misunderstandings - there exists an intricate and elaborate world of formalities, a veritable symphony of greetings, civilities and doffing of hats so to speak that foreigners frequently bulldoze over leading to confusion and less than desirable...

Is alcohol really not sold after 10:30 tonight?

Elaborating a bit more on this, I was surprised at the blatant defiance of this supposed law at not 1 but 3 major boliches in Capital Federal. They were serving booze like any normal Saturday. Does anyone know if the fine for getting caught selling alcohol during this time frame is quite low and...

Why does customer service here suck?

LOL. I will start yelling back perhaps. No really, It doesnt upset me to that extent, it just leaves me pretty speechless at times. I also dont understand the snobishness, but thats another post I guess?

Why does customer service here suck?

I can honestly say that one of the very few things that is really starting to get to me about this lovely country and wonderful city that are Argentina and Buenos Aires, is the absolutely apalling level of customer service. I have honestly never seen anything like it, and I have travelled. I...

Is alcohol really not sold after 10:30 tonight?

I heard restaurants and bars located inside of hotels were exempt from this... Can anybody confirm?

    Cost of Living in BA?

I agree, everybody's idea of ¨living comfortably¨ differs, and to put it bluntly and I include myself in this, so I'm not trying to offend anybody, ex-pats tend to be quite spoiled when it comes to standards of living. I have seen it in Spain (where I am from) and I see it here and as I said, I...

    Bank Account: Mission Impossible!

Ok, so not everything is a bed of roses with my first month in Argentina. I am having THE ABSOLUTE WORST time trying to get a bank account opened. I have been told now by numerous banks, that the laws have changed and that they can now only open new bank accounts with an Argentinian DNI. Nothing...

    ATM Withdrawl Limits

Is this other ATM available at Citi then only for the use of Citibank debit cards? Or will it work for other international bank debit cards too?

    ATM Withdrawl Limits

Thanks for the info Greg, I have indeed noticed 2 different types of ATMs at the Citibanks. I tried to use one once but it did not work. So 4000 on these ATMs per transaction fee? If I wanted more than 4000 would I be able to just stick my card back in and pay 1 more fee? thanks
