Diego Armando Maradona Dead at 60.

A long dull life simply isn't for everyone. Not for me, for example.

Diego Armando Maradona Dead at 60.

As a former journalist, I must say I admire him for this: "In February 1994, he fired an air rifle at reporters outside his summer home in Argentina." I don't know the details, but probably deserved.

Diego Armando Maradona Dead at 60.

His life had a spectacular first act. But like many extraordinarily talented sports or entertainment stars, no second.

Argentina now ridiculously cheap for tourists

I live in CABA and Europe now; in Chicago for holidays. It was a very safe, livable city from '95 to about '15. It's quite sad to see what's become of it. And the property taxes! The city budget just passed guarantees they increase for the next four years. It was a great city.

Argentina now ridiculously cheap for tourists

Typical USA large-city prices. About the same in Phoenix or Philly or Tampa. And the Starbucks on Rush and Oak? Dangerous is more like it, not entertaining. Car jackings and muggings are rampant on the Gold Coast. I know, I'm there now. The USA of rosy nostalgia is no longer.

Compare to these prices from a popular steakhouse in my neighborhood in Chicago. Count your blessings, as well as pesos. https://www.gibsonssteakhouse.com/locations/gibsons-chicago/gibsons-chicago-menu/

    Travel Possibilities?

You are probably right, as you almost always are! But I think it may be a variation of that for the first 2 weeks. “During the first two weeks of the opening of this border, between November 23 and December 7, foreigners coming from high-risk countries, according to the WHO classification...

    Travel Possibilities?

For what it’s worth, Chile opens to global tourism via SCL and protocols on Nov 23. https://www.travelandleisure.com/travel-news/chile-reopening-border-covid-travelers Also, EZE starts to charge for parking on Dec 1, which might be a precursor to additional flights. I’m thinking Argentina is...

It’s official Joe Biden becomes the 46 President of the United States.

I live in Argentina and Singapore, so I really don't care about the US election, but as I posted earlier, this is interesting. https://baexpats.org/threads/it%E2%80%99s-official-joe-biden-becomes-the-46-president-of-the-united-states.43159/post-398317

It’s official Joe Biden becomes the 46 President of the United States.

This is pretty interesting. “The joke is that the GOP is really assembling the multiracial working-class coalition that the left has always dreamed of,” says David Shor, a Democratic polling and data expert who developed the Obama 2012 campaign’s internal election-forecasting system...

USA Who will Be President ? Where to Watch

Hispanics in USA will increasingly vote conservative, because they are, which means GOP. That's the demographic that counts. Unless your kids are Mexicanos or Central Americanos. And not all young people--even the white privileged kind with hippy parents (not you!)--think a high-tax...

USA Who will Be President ? Where to Watch

Agree. But USA also needs to boycott the Chinese industrial products to which they are hopelessly addicted. China by far worst environmental perpetrator. https://www.ucsusa.org/resources/each-countrys-share-co2-emissions

USA Who will Be President ? Where to Watch

That's nice. But it doesn't matter. Only the Electoral College does. And, with GOP control of the Senate and the likelihood the GOP picks up additional House seats in 2022, the Electoral College isn't going anywhere. This is a civil war, and it's clear who is winning.

USA Who will Be President ? Where to Watch

Very good! Trying to imagine what the Argentine Empire would be like. Plenty of tannat and bife de chorizo and they have my vote. Funny how everyone here takes this all so seriously. I'm amused, anyway, and that's all that matters.

USA Who will Be President ? Where to Watch

It’s pretty simple, kids. The USA Empire has run its course. Get Glubb’s THE FATE OF EMPIRES and SEARCH FOR SURVIVAL off the shelf and reread. It’s not terribly PC, but then neither is history, it turns out. If you’ve misplaced your copy, find it here...
