    Chili Powder

mikew, I'd recommend going to Barrio Chino. The markets there have aisles and aisles of spices. If I recall correctly, I think I had a hard time finding chili powder. Cayenne isn't a problem to find. But that darker chili powder way. I think I had to compromise at the one store I was at and get...

    Hungarian cuisine

I've been meaning to go to Turandot in Palermo...assuming it's the same place on Bonpland or Fitz Roy and Honduras with the big sign that says "Hungarian Food" when you walk from Honduras towards Santa Fe.

    Pretzels + Bagels

No, Tribeca does not have a store, only delivery. I might have a list of places from them that they deliver them to (other stores). If I find it, I'll share the locations to go try one.

New York Style Cheesecake & Hot Pastrami Sandwhich

I was going to go to Big Mammas this week since it's 3 blocks from where I do some consulting work. But I'm going to hold out until Saturday and give El Ciervo de Oro a try! Like with sushi, I've kept expectations low and look forward to the rare surprise.

Peanut Butter, Raisins, and Spices, Oh my...

What kind of peanut butter was it? I've found pasta de mani at a few places. Most dietecas have it. There's a import store with mostly spices and grains in Belgrano, on Juramento y Ciudad de la paz. The most variety I've found though is in Barrio Chino. Most stores there will have a number of...

    sushi tips anyone

I was a big sushi eater in the US. But thus far here, I've found myself phasing it out of my weekly routine. I have gone to Dashi a few times as they do have nice red tuna sashimi. It's no Sasabune in LA, but it's still a nice melt in your mouth piece of tuna.

    Best BBQ/Barbecue/Barbacoa sauce

Figured if there are any other traditional southern USA BBQ fans here, that it would be worthwhile to have a dedicated thread to some of the off the counter sauce options here in BA. There are a number of different BBQ sauce styles even in the US. Some focus on a heavier tomato presence, like...

New York Style Cheesecake & Hot Pastrami Sandwhich

There's always one in the group ;) I feel like I'm back home with that negativity for anything not NY ;) I should have prefaced my post: I spent most of my life living in New York, with the exception of 6 total years in Massachusetts, then 6 total years in Los Angeles. There likely does not...

    Re: Cuts of Meat

Nikad, Thank you so much. I just saved your list to my Evernote iphone app so I can have it on my at all times. I was wondering if anyone had anything similar for pork. I know many cuts would be the same as beef. Just wondering if there is anything worth knowing regarding pork. Thanks!

New York Style Cheesecake & Hot Pastrami Sandwhich

First post here. Just moved to BA last month and have had some cravings of favorite foods. I too am a Carnegie fan. I'll often schedule flights with a 5 hour layover in NY just so I can go there. When living in LA for the past 5 years, I'd often drive out to Vegas with the primary reason being...
