A friend recommended this book to me and it sounds interesting. A mystery set in Argentina, written in English, available on kindle. I haven't read it so no opinion.

!st, I agree with Rich. I always rent from one of the majors not that it probably matters that much. I usually wind up with Avis or Europcar. I always rent using my Am Ex card and waive CDW so between my US...
We don't own a car here, but rent 4 or so times a year with a USA passport and Washington State driver's license, and have been stopped at check points. No police person has ever questioned the USA driver's license ( since 2007 ).

We were just there, 3 weeks ago, we are tourists and I did see families. Tipping is nice, it makes people feel appreciated, maybe you would get better service if you tipped.

What is MBP?
I would check the price of the computer in a Chile "Apple" store. There are "Apple" stores here where you can buy new Apple computers....for a price.

I too hate Starbucks, especially it's founder, Schultz. It's stupid, I'm not a basketball fan but, being from Seattle, it hurt when he gave our team to Oklahoma. That said, it's really the only place I can get a dark roast expresso so I hold my nose and go in :=(

I think the T bone steak at Don Julio is really fabulous and service etc also great. But, in order for the prices to be real you must use your Club de Nation card, 20% off the entire bill including the wine.

We moved our things ( still doing it, after 10 years ) in suitcases, taking as many as allowed , plus some. It's much cheaper IMO. No furniture, no large appliances, just the things that make home HOME, books, art, carpets, etc, etc, etc.
