NEW ORLEANS night at The Office July 19

NOLAchef, Sounds great. I’ll be there. After 20 years in south Louisiana, I do miss the food. I hope that you can “kick it up a notch”. Any chance of a turduckin at some point in the future?

    Change in expat attitudes?

I have been here about 4 years and I don’t think my attitude has changed. I, along with my Argentine wife and our 2 young sons, one born in the States and one born here, live about 50 km outside of the city. I drive into the microcentro everyday and my wife drives into Palermo for her job 4 days...

Just for fun - if you wanted to blow a lot of cash on a big night out in BsAs...

The Faena Hotel is an interesting place, and you can drop some cash there. I have had a few good dinners and brunches at the Mercado, the Library Bar is pleasant and the Pool Bar is cool (has good ceviche, in my opinion). Never been in the place with the white unicorns on the wall, I always...

    Locksmith ripoff? Cerrajero malo?

A few months ago, we could not find the key to open a brand new apartment we were selling in Caballito. It was a Saturday afternoon and the realtor had called and said she had a person who just wanted to take one more look before putting down a deposit on the place. I called the local locksmith...

    Explosions?

They are simply firecrackers (albeit quite large) set off by demonstrators as they walk through the streets. I am in my office on Ave. Belgrano (corner of Bolivar) and yes I heard them today and many other days. It's just part of daily life here.

    Drivers Licence

For what’s it’s worth, my experience regarding obtaining an Argentine Driver’s License was a breeze. I live in Pilar, so I went to the Driver’s License Office in Pilar first thing in the morning with my DNI, Cedula Verde (Auto Registration) and Proof of Insurance, filled out a Form, got my eyes...

    Cedula/"New" DNI

Does anyone (Expat with Permanent Residency & DNI) have experience with obtaining a Cedula de Identidad? I am a permanent resident with DNI and want to get the Cedula so that I do not have to carry the DNI in my wallet. The documents needed (DNI, Birth Certificate, Marriage Certificate...

Peanut Oil for Cajun Fried Turkey

Does anyone know where to buy peanut oil (20-25 liters) here in BA? I brought my turkey fryer rig (from the U.S.) and even found the “original” Cajun Injector brand of marinade in Jumbo, amazing. I have fried turkeys here before, but using other oils, it is just not the same. Argentina produces...

    Movers/Freight Company

In 2006 we moved a full 40’ container from the U.S. to Argentina. Since my wife was an Argentine citizen who had lived out of Argentina for more than one year, we had a “one time opportunity” to bring in “used household goods” duty free. As was mentioned in a previous post, I believe (for...

Health insurance in BA for a US citizen

I have coverage by Omint which I have found to be excellent. In Nov. 2007 I broke both my arms. During the ten days in the Clinica del Sol hospital (several in ICU) private room, I was visited each day by a physician employee of Omint just to “make sure everything was going OK”. My surgeon...

do argentines need a passport to enter brazil?

I believe that if you are a U.S. citizen and have Argentine Permanent Residence (and DNI), you still need a visa stamp in your U.S. passport prior to entering Brazil. You can obtain this at the Brazilian Consulate in BA. The difference in having Argentine Permanent Residency is that you should...
