Argentine was sooo mean to me! Is this normal?

I wonder if this is a big city issue? I don't find the people in New York or Paris or London or Tokyo, etc., to be that friendly either.

What is wrong with these people!?

Oh, and here's another graphic from the National Post: "A Man with a Plan," details all of the ammunition and equipment James Holmes had on him when he walked into the theatre. http://news.nationalpost.com/2012/07/25/graphic-james-holmes-was-a-man-with-a-plan/

What is wrong with these people!?

Here's an excellent graphic by Canada's National Post, on "Gun Nations"-- "Gun Toting and Gun Using Nations and States." Make of it what you will: http://news.nationalpost.com/2012/07/28/guns-ownership-around-the-world-graphic/

Electronics in Uruguay or Paraguay, Less Expensive Than Argentina?

I absolutely love Paraguay-- every minute I spent there was wonderful. I didn't know very much about the country before I went but was pleasantly surprised to find that it was safe, cheap, and the people were exceptionally friendly. That said, I didn't make it to Ciudad del Este, but I was in...

How do people afford dry cleaning here?

Approx. $80??? Wow. Is this a super-specialized service there? I can't imagine why it would be so expensive. In Montreal, three loads would be about $12 (washed, dried, folded).

How do people afford dry cleaning here?

Just to add my (unsolicited) two cents-- I find that the lavandaria is expensive as well. Yesterday, I paid 50 pesos for one load of laundry and it took 48 hours to be completed.

Electronics in Uruguay or Paraguay, Less Expensive Than Argentina?

@jago25_98-- the procedure at customs is that everyone has to get off the bus, hand over their passport/documents, gather their 'checked' luggage and then head over to the x-ray section. When this is done, the checked luggage goes back on the bus, the bus leaves, and everyone is given back...

Electronics in Uruguay or Paraguay, Less Expensive Than Argentina?

I came back from Asuncion on the bus, and every bag was put through the x-ray machine. There was quite the kafuffle over my MacBook, which I had brought with me from Canada. The aduana asked for a receipt (which I couldn't produce) and really took a good look at it to make sure it wasn't new.

    Attempted Robbery on the subte

@arlean-- the restaurant scam also happened in a restaurant where I worked in Montreal. The restaurant was downtown and was always really busy at lunchtime with the business crowd. Four men in suits and ties came in, we sat them at a table, and when it came time to take their order, they very...

I fell for honeytrap, claims British physicist in Argentine jail

    Attempted Robbery on the subte

I had my iPhone stolen in Retiro station on a Saturday afternoon as I was waiting for the subte to arrive. This was in early June, within the first two weeks of my arrival here. Now, I have to admit to my own stupidity as I should have taken better precautions. I usually carry a book-bag...

What is wrong with these people!?

My understanding is that he didn't just throw "a couple of smoke bombs" but tear gas... as taken from a comment on Gawker: "unless the casual movie-goer decided to roll into the midnight showing with a rifle capable of penetrating Holmes' ballistic armor, and had the wherewithal to take...

How do you get dollars in BA?

This seems to be the issue. If landlords want to paid be in USD, they should make it easier for tourists to do so. I don't know about anyone else, but I'm not comfortable carrying three-six months of rent in USD around with me, nor am I comfortable with paying this amount of rent in advance...

    Subtitled Movies at Cine Recoleta

Yes, but Roma con amor is a Woody Allen film. Perfecto Plano is a crappy American movies about New Yorkers with kids, and Sombras Tenebrosas is a Tim Burton film (I think). Do you really think they would put all of that effort into dubbing them? Given their rather limited audience? I...

    Subtitled Movies at Cine Recoleta

I was thinking of going to go and see a movie this evening at Cine Recoleta. I went to their website to see what was playing, and I'm a bit confused. All of the movies are listed with Spanish titles. About half say SUBTL and the other half say CAST. So obviously, some are in English with...

    Living in Olivos

HAHAHAHA! You are hilarious! Seriously, if you have lived in the Middle East, Asia and Africa, you must be aware that you are travelling to a foreign country, where of course some people will speak English. And many people won't speak English. Your potential pool of friends will be limited...

Hello from Canada - Have some questions

Seriously, if you catch someone stealing from you, just give them what they want. You are a foreigner, you don't speak the language, and even if you have a black belt, it would be really stupid to try to fight! Don't forget that these people often travel in packs, so it's not just the thief...

Electronics in Uruguay or Paraguay, Less Expensive Than Argentina?

I was in Paraguay last week-- the only thing I specifically asked about was the iPhone4S, which was $720 USD. That's just a little more than what I would pay in Canada, if I added the GST and QST (taxes). In Asuncion, the stores were overflowing with electronic goods so you might be able to...
