Calling It Quits In Ba After Five Years

Congrats on your house sale and best of luck for the move. Did you sell to someone with an account outside the country or were you able to wire funds out? We're trying to leave too and this is one of the main difficulties.

    Boring Question About Duvet Covers....

Oh well, they can sell them for any price they wish. That's not what they cost the hotel to buy them! Besides why is the Alvear selling pillows???? I guess that's the charge they slap on the bill if you disappear one from the room.

    Boring Question About Duvet Covers....

How many pillows would that be for? They probably dress one bed with at least 4 pillows in embroidered egyptian cotton cases and maybe a couple of bolsters, custom-upholstered in fancy material. That could cost 500 USD.

    Boring Question About Duvet Covers....

Wonder where hotels get them. Even bulk buying, I can't believe they spend 1000 pesos on a duvet and cover per bed. They don't seem hand made either.

    Boring Question About Duvet Covers....

Well my family lives even more humbly, Crema Americana. We have taken to using sleeping bags, haha! We save the duvets for the guests...

    Pooh On Street

Yesterday I skidded for about a metre down the sidewalk. I thought I had slipped on soapy suds as someone was washing outside their door nearby, but I had stepped in a big mushy pile of dog s*^t, haha! Fortunately there was some new paving laid down at the nearby Metrobus shelter that had...

    Boring Question About Duvet Covers....

Nikad et al, those are the duvet and cover I bought off Mercadolibre. I have one duvet and two covers. They are really not worth buying, there is no closure for the covers and they are so thin that when new they're even thinner than my 15 year old ones friom UK!! The duvet itself is made of a...

    Boring Question About Duvet Covers....

Now I see the 2 fundas is the pillowcases. Scrap that then!

    Boring Question About Duvet Covers....

Well, I'm super-cheapo about this kind of thing, and I don't mind synthetic. The feather duvet I bought at falabella sheds all the time anyway. For anyone else on a budget, I found this on Mercadolibre, comes with two covers (which makes up for the pretty hideous design options)...

    Boring Question About Duvet Covers....

I've only found one affordable supplier of these and they are 20-year-old thin when new, with no buttons or ties at the ends, and not cheap either! Does anyone else have a supplier they could recommend? I can't use acolchados as I have guests coming once or twice a week and it's not possible to...

Newbie Looking For Advice From You Oldies

I didn't speak much spanish when I arrived here, so I signed up for a month-long intensive at UBA, followed by a second one at the next level. The courses were good, nice teachers and I met some great people from different countries. It was a positive experience all round.

    Employment Needed In January

Many expats are looking for baby-sitters / nannies if that would be of interest to you. Whenever they offer their services on here, they seem to get snapped up.

    Children's Furniture Stores

Usually, you can pay at the door when they deliver. Just sign up for an account, and then you can ask questions before you click to buy, including how much the delivery to your barrio is. Sometimes you have to pay through Mercadopago, printing out a coupon to take to a Pagofacil or Rapipago, but...

    Children's Furniture Stores

Look on www.mercadolibre.com.ar, you'll find everything you need. I bought a custom-made toychest with my kids' names on it recently, very reasonably priced. I've also bought beanbags and children's furniture (cot, chest of drawers and a desk) from there too...

    Does Your Gas Heater Smell?

We've found that the gas here smells very strongly on some days but not on all. It's very strange. We have noticed this from both the cooker and the gas heater (both recently installed by a good plumber/gasista so it's defo not a leak).

    Overstaying Visa For 3Rd Time.....

Hang on a mo, there was a guy who posted recently saying he wasn't given a tourist stamp because he had three overstays in his passport. They let him in to the country and told him he had to get his residency and dni. Couldn't find it in archives, will have another look. But it's too late now...
