    Book Club in Spanish start-up

Hey guys What would ya'll think of a kick-off meeting here in Vicente Lopez next Sunday, with a BBQ afterwords? Start the Book Club around 1 and burn some burgers around 3 or 4? It would also be great if Igor were well enough to attend at least the burger part, so we can all welcome him back...

El Empujon del Diablo - A. Carranza 1969

Hey guys I just had a very nice meal at this restaurant, located on Angel Carranza 1969, esq. Costa Rica 4774-7354 This smallish restaurant offers very reasonably priced Northern Argentine cuisine, and the meal I had was VERY nicely done. Empanada (baked) de carne, large, fresh and tasty...

    carrefour question

Amat carrafour does carry this kind of stuff, but IMHO it is close the the worst place to get it, both for price and quality. You could go to Easy in Palermo and do a little better with a little better variety, but a better place to find a reasonable variety of low priced stuff is in Tigre...

ExPat Book Exchange - This weekend?

Hey Joe (and all) 2 PM is fine - I'll be here all afternoon, except for a quick supply run in the morning! I suggested later because I found that on Sunday even if you say 2 or 3, folks tend to show up later rather then earlier! I'll have some snacks ready for earlybirds, and plan on burgers...

ExPat Book Exchange - This weekend?

Hey guys! Been a somewhat sluggish response to the proposed BBQ/BookSwap tomorrow, out here in Vicente Lopez. I have a few non-forum friends coming by, so there will be a few folks here, but the more the merrier! I can easily understand folks wanting to stay home and inside in this cold...

ExPat Book Exchange - This weekend?

Joe Sorry! Just posted this about Sunday. Can't do it Saturday, alas, but could in the future. You are welcome to come earlier - I usually say 4 because that's when most people show up anyway, but I'll be here all day and there's no reason you (or anyome else) couldn't come by earlier! Hope...

Nothing to do, nowhere to go!

Sorry guys! With all this cold weather I went into hibernation, and never did follow up on this Sunday. However, I would be happy to host a get-together, and anyone who would like to come out here Sunday is very welcome to. As usual, RSVP's will help determine how many supplies are needed...

Essentials for a long bus trip?

Bianca Buses here are very comfortable and the time will pass quickly. I have never used the "cama suite" but the regular coche cama is business class comfy and I'm sure the cama suite is even nicer. I second the "warm sweater" suggestion, and you may want to stop by the local farmacia and ask...

ExPat Book Exchange - This weekend?

Hey Jenn I was planning another expat burger BBQ this coming Sunday (11th), out here in Vct. Lopez. You (and anyone else) are welcome to bring books to swap - I even have a few new ones... Betts has promised to bring some home-made chocolate chip cookies which I am really looking forward to...

    Lets Introduce ourselves

Hey guys! Just got back from a short trip back to EEUU, and I'm ready for another get-together if ya'll are! Could be burgers, or perhaps even something different this time? Introduce yourselves in person! I was thinking about next Sunday (11th - a week from tomorrow) I'll start a new thread...

    Need transportation and hotel

Thanks! I think that although you could walk from the Hippodromo, it might be just a little further then you're thinking. You could always bail in Belgrano and grab the 29 bus Quicker to grab the (Tigre) train at Lisandro de la Torre and get off 3 or 4 stops later at Rivadavia or Vicente Lopez...

    Need transportation and hotel

Hey guys (and anyone else) If you don't need to be in the middle of town, I have several rooms available for a WHOLE lot less then those hotels. I live in Vicente Lopez (just outside of Belgrano/Nunez) in the house that used to be the residence of the Russian Ambassador to Argentina. I have...

Burgers in the 'Burbs' - 6/14

Hey guys! Thanks to those of you who braved the transit system to schlep out here and party yesterday! I had a blast, and got to meet even more new folks. Those of you who didn't come missed out on some good company, and some excellent contributions - chocolate cake, potato salads (3...

Hong Kong Style- Real Gourmet Chinese

I have eaten here several times in the last few weeks, and this has become my favorite Chinese restaurant in Buenos Aires. They have several dim-sum type entradas, all of which are tasty, and the whole mero (grouper) is, in fact, excellant. I am going there tonight to try the peking duck...

    Quality/Speed of internet

Hey there I am using both cable and DSL (for redundancy - that should tell you something already!) I forget what speed they claim to be offering (I think my cable states 3 meg and the DSL 2), and it doesn't matter because the stated rate has NOTHING to do with the actual rate. I have never...

Burgers in the 'Burbs' - 6/14

Moving to BA in July 09

Hey guys! Why not take 1/2 the $$$ it would cost to send the kids to school and let them travel around Argentina instead? I guarantee they would learn more (and have more fun) then sitting in a class room full of strangers for 4 months! There is SO much more to Argentina then Buenos Aires...

Burgers in the 'Burbs' - 6/14

The street is a dead end, and the house is almost at the end of the street, past the big Umbu tree that is in the middle of the road (that tree is several hundred years old, and obviously pre-dates the street!) You'll find it... David

Health Insurance - Are the Higher End Plans Worth It?

JK Check the handouts to see what the exact differences are, but (more important then plastic surgery and dental implants), the higher price plans allow access to some of the more prestigious hospitals and clinics. I have the basic Osde 210, which is certainly fine for everyday stuff, but if...

Burgers in the 'Burbs' - 6/14

Hey guys There is a printable map, with taxi instructions in spanish, at: http://www.davidelkus.com/map.html and another one, perhaps clearer but without instructions at: http://www.terrazadelnorte.com/eng/ubicac.html You can also take any one of a number of buses. The 29 comes down...
