Foreign credit cards purchases at MEP rate

Fidelity - no foreign exchange rate fees or surcharges, all ATM fees -including international ATMs-get reimbursed, and great customer service. Highly recommended.

Foreign credit cards purchases at MEP rate

Just got money at the ATM. Effective exchange rate of 948.35. Significantly better than WU and even slightly better than trading dollars on the street. Haven't seen that in awhile.

I'm sure this has been shared before, but I'll drop this link to real time visa info here: https://usa.visa.com/support/consumer/travel-support/exchange-rate-calculator.html

Milei Won. He is the new President of Argentina.

Possum, if you have an interest in learning what Milei is about, I'd recommend a book called, "The Road to Serfdom" by Hayek. It is written for and dedicated to good, sincere people such as yourself. Its not the absolute closest thing to his personal philosophy, but its really close. Its also...

Economists warn electing Milei would spell devastation

I'm coming from a very different perspective than you. Donald Trump was an unmoored novice politician who had an affinity for certain thinks like, "law and order", "border walls, "western civilization", "hard working people" and "capitalism" He came to DC with a hand extended to make deals and...

Economists warn electing Milei would spell devastation

He needs to be tough. Fire any/all govt employees for disobeying mandates and orders. Protesters that engage in violence or destruction of property need to be punished to the full extent of the law. Give business the right to fire disruptive employees members of labor unions who engage in...

    Doughnuts - desperate craving for...

Lots of delicious sweets in Argentina, but for a taste of home... ....raised/glazed doughnuts and apple fritters aren't super-hard to make. "Preppy Kitchen" channel on YouTube has some easy to follow recipes.

Finding a great 3 month rental apartment

Well, it may not be true, but I have run into it at least a dozen times. I love airbnb and have used it for at least 1000 nights world wide, but I tend to avoid it here in Argentina. As a guest, there is no easy way for me to tell if the apartment host is saavy and has a US bank account or if...

Finding a great 3 month rental apartment

Every time I try to use Airbnb in Argentina I run into the same problem: I pay in USD with my US credit card and the host receives Argentine pesos. AirBnb seems to convert everything at the 'official' currency exchange rate rather than using MEP. This results in the host receiving only half...

The Case For President Sergio Massa

I agree that expats get more than they give. If they gave more than they got, they'd go some place else. And the choices for expats aren't simply here or back home...many countries to choose from. Flip the table around. Argentina benefits from expats. The get more than they give as well...

    Retiring and bringing a Parrot

I actually went through a similar process 7 years ago with a Green Cheek Conure. At the time, it is very possible that we were the only people who had done this for over decade. The regulations are specific to each species, so you will need to find out what exactly is necessary for your bird...

    Help with Western Union app

I'm 99.99% sure I've used WU points to offset service fees and I've never used the app.

    Best USD Conversion Rate

Sorry to hear that Utopos. Customer service isn't important...until it is. I've tried in the past to do bank transfers through WU w/o success. I was willing/able to adjust my arrangements to do Debit card to cash transfers. The added cost for doing a Remitly transfer vs doing a WU Debit Card...

    Best USD Conversion Rate

I just took a look at Remitly. Their exhange rate is at 458.87 vs WU at 495.40. Remitly's free commission is offset pretty quickly by that rate differential. WU makes more sense for all amounts over $80. I don't get why people are recommending this.

Moving to Argentina how do I keep a US phone number?

I ported my US number over to google voice. I have a local Argentine phone that I use for day to day stuff, but all my calls to US numbers are done through google voice - which I access through my laptop computer or through my phone (google voice uses internet/data not phone service) Phone...

    whistling....

My good sir, Critique my singing voice if must, but whistling? It is simply about the joy and love in my heart. :-?

    whistling....

Thank you for your response, Nikad. Other than personal curiosity, my only concern was that it might be considered rude. cheers.

    whistling....

Random post here... Does anyone know or have a sense for how whistling is viewed in Argentina? On a very, very rare occasion, I (rather quietly) will whistle a little tune to myself while walking in public. I'll get a song stuck in my head, and I think it just comes out subconsciously...

What would you bring to Argentina with you?

Depends on the person, but broadly speaking I would say that clothing, computers, and exotic/hot spices are either less available, lower quality or more expensive than I expected.
