    English skill

I have actually consistently encountered the opposite situation... When Argentines hear my slightly-accented Castellano, they want to talk to me in English (which I stubbornly refuse to do). I used to take offense to it, believing that they thought that my Spanish must be so poor that they...

What would you miss most if you left Argentina?

I will be the first to admit that, in the past 9+ years that I have lived in Buenos Aires, I have fantasized multiple times about jumping like a rat from a sinking ship, taking a taxi to Ezeiza, and purchasing a one-way ticket out of the country. Alas, it is still just a fantasy. As much as...

    Freelance English Teacher (TEFL certified)

Hello, olugbo! I have been living and working in Buenos Aires teaching English as a foreign language for 9+ years. I also blog about it (and life here in general). Feel free to check out my most recent post (from today) about teaching ESL in Buenos Aires here...

Ceviche, thank you for the book recommendation. It looks like it has some stellar reviews on Amazon. I shall definitely check it out :)

    Writers' Club?

Hello, all, As some of you may know, I have a personal blog that I maintain, as writing is one of my favorite hobbies. I have also been working for some time now on a memoir about my experiences living in Buenos Aires. Writing a book is really something that I have aspired to for a while. To...

Hangzhou - Expat online community like BAexpats in China?

Hello, Robette, Try going to www.eslcafe.com ("Dave's ESL Cafe"). Even if your friends are not English teachers, there are forums similar to this one, where you can discuss work-related topics as well as "off topics" exclusively in China ... Click on: "Stuff for teachers" ---> "International...

The new and improved baexpats.org website!

Hello, Admin! For some reason, my username went back to the one that I had originally signed up on the forum with (Lauren23), though I had changed it to Vagrant Violet in 2013. Is there any way to change it back to the Vagrant Violet one? I cannot seem to figure it out. I would really...

Unable To Call Arg Using Usa Iphone?

Hello, all! First and foremost, I want to preface this post by explaining that although this may not be a BAexpat issue per se, due to the specific circumstances, I figured that this was still a valid platform to use to ask. Anyway, here is my spoiled, first world problem... I am currently...

    Tell Me What You Want

Umm... I don’t necessarily believe that you couldn’t find just a few relevant links in an entire years’ time, but anyway... I have continued to blog about life here in Buenos Aires. This can help get you started: http://vagrantviolet.com/2017/12/tis-season-contraband/...

    Tell Me What You Want

The daily URL listings have not been updated for nearly 12 months... why? Not only is the community missing out on some potentially cool blog posts, but it makes the forum look very outdated and poorly maintained.

Disappearing Expats? Or Is Everyone Happier?

I have been a part of this forum since 2009, and though I occasionally lurk every now and then, I stopped posting a while ago. There's far too much petty squabbling amongst certain members of the forum (y'all know who I'm referring to). Threads that should be purposeful and to the point...

    Button Has Arrived At Ezeiza

Just curious - When did you pass through EZE? Was it really bad? I am asking since I am going to be traveling to the United States and returning in mid-July via Ezeiza.

Greatest Hits: Ba Expat Characters And Incidents

Because it turned out that someone from the Delta crew had "tipped off" that I was the one with the cough without speaking with me first to find out what was going on, so the CDC was waiting for me... Moreover, a few days later when they had sent an automated "Tell Us How We Did" survey and I...

Greatest Hits: Ba Expat Characters And Incidents

I'm not entirely sure if this story "counts," but about 4 years ago, when flying from BA back to the USA, I was taken out of the immigration queue and temporarily detained in the Atlanta airport due to a very unfortunate misunderstanding about a cough that I was experiencing due to acid reflux...

    Cuevas In Nuñez

I sometimes go to one called "SFC" on Av. Congreso 2453 (corner of Av. Cabildo). No issues or concerns or anything to report. You can call ahead to ask about the rates, too: 4541-1856

Eze To Mia For Short Vacay? Questions!

Hey, guys! I want to plan a solo trip to Miami in late June of this year (leaving from EZE) with the sole purpose of shopping, shopping, and doing some more shopping (enough said!). It would be for about a week or so. As I would be on a budget, I was thinking of simply renting a private room...

    Flu? What To Do?

Nope, there is a medicine sold as over the counter tablets called "Cura Plus." It is good for flu like symptoms. One of the side effects (which might be a positive in your case) is that it can make you drowsy/sleepy. I am not familiar with Oura Plus, is it any good?

    Flu? What To Do?

Yikes, sorry to hear that you're under the weather! I guess that it's just one of those things that will simply take time to recover from. Apart from the Cura Plus that you are taking (good choice as a med), I suppose that your best bet is to continue to rest as much as you can and drink...

    Pancakes

A little known tip when it comes to making your pancakes extra fluffy!: After you mix all your dry ingredients together (which probably ought to include at least a teaspoon or so of baking soda), add about a teaspoon or two of white vinegar to your wet ingredients, and then combine... Not too...
