    Charles Schwab - need information

Want to open an account with them. Does anyone have one, and how good are they? I am looking for a place that has mutual funds, checking accounts with ATM access, and debit cards. Right now I'm with a company that only has mutual funds. I have a money market account there, but all I can do...

Old, confused and appreciative of help.

Vanguard just does mutual fund investing - no credit cards and no banking beyond checks and bank transfers. You might want to consider switching your Vanguard funds to Schwab. I understand that they offer banking and debit cards. Check this forum, there's quite a few posts recommending it.

Moving to BA and Looking for Input and Future Community

Take it easy - you'll probably begin by understanding Spanish; speaking comes later, and take longer. You'll find that gradually whole Spanish phrases will start springing up in your mind. No more painfully trying to paste together subject, verb, etc. into a whole weird sentence. Don't be...

How many of us are still here?

@sergio: I'm puzzled by your post. How much time have you spent in the US during the past three years? I don't mean fleeting tourist visits, but actual time living there.

How many of us are still here?

So sorry you see my views as sweeping generalizaions. My opinion is based in changes I noticed while visiting in Boston, Alexandria, Va., Chapel Hill, NC., San Francisco, and Miami. In my view, the change did not start with COVID, but after the 2020 election was contested. The resulting...

How do you guys find things here?

True, life here can be inconvenient and difficult. But, on the other hand....... Living in Argentina keeps one fit and young, as only those with good reflexes make it.

Best Bilingual English kindergarten & primary school in Buenos Aires

The Belgrano Day School is in Belgrano, close to Palermo. Bilingual, takes children 2 years old and up, from kindergarden through high school. Several of my relatives attended it, and I can personally recommend it. It's a good school - traditional without being snobbish, it draws children...

How do you guys find things here?

Have a Spanish speaking friend show you how to access MercadoLibre, and just type what you need in English. I find everything there. Best of luck with learning Spanish - even at the most basic level, it will make your life a hundred times easier.

How many of us are still here?

I quite agree. I have a friend living in Miami, not in the posh part. She and her husband, both in their late seventies, live on their combined SS payments of $1,100 a month. On that, they have a lovely one bedroom apartment facing a wide canal full of wildlife - it is a safe area, where...

How many of us are still here?

You are right. Sadly, I did not find any while traveling in Belgium, France, Spain, Germany, or living in Uruguay. However, I came across kind and helpful people both in Canada and Italy. This country leaves a lot to be desired, but let's not overlook the kindness and generosity of many...

How many of us are still here?

Aside from money matters, let's consider this about life in Argentina. Yesterday I had to go to MetroGas to dispute an incorrect bill. I have trouble getting around, so the taxi driver took me under his wing, parked his car, went into the office with me and did battle in my stead. This took...

How many of us are still here?

With today's Blue rate at 1,130 pesos per dollar, I've started to look around for the EXIT signs. Specially, considering that my power bill just went from 35 to 76,000 pesos. Per month. Argentina has almost become more expensive than Uruguay

    Miracle in Microcenter

I had similar bad experiences in Italy, France, and in the US in Washington, DC, Boston, and San Francisco: had a wallet lifted, phone stolen, Traveler's checks pilfered, and a huge Italian Salami filched from my shopping cart in a Boston street market. Still, those thefts were far outweighed...

    Miracle in Microcenter

In two separate occasions, in two different restaurants, I left behind my MacBook and my iPhone. Once on an outisde windowsill, as I was sitting at an sidewalk table. Both times they were waiting for me when I returned in a panic. How sad that some people's inner-porteño is so negative, and...

What is the food you miss most from "home?"

Last week I made a great pork shoulder stew: meat, carrots, leeks, onions, green peas, celery, and the secret ingredient: half a bottle of the cheapest red wine. The kind that comes in a carton - that's how cheap it is. Lasts in the refrigerator for about five days, and gets better as time...
