Coffee Chat on TUESDAY, June 2 VELVET Café/Resto in Palermo

Blimey! These meetings must be much more rowdy than I had thought!

Casas tomadas recovered in the city

Oh, they've not got as far as thinking about selling anything yet. It's still at the who actually owns how much of what and where it all is stage. It needn't have taken nine years (and counting) to sort it out but a) it isn't untypical of family situations in Argentina and b) would never have...

Casas tomadas recovered in the city

.... and another scenario, this time just the two siblings. But they've asked a lawyer, a family member, to handle everything - on the usual favours basis that exists within families, of course. So the lawyer, who has a busy practice, keeps putting the favour at the bottom of their active pile...

Why Peter Thiel Is Decamping to the End of the World

It won't make any difference to me. I'm not in the income bracket where I might have to worry that he buys the mansion next to.my mansion and lowers the tone of the neighbourhood. And he's not in the Income bracket where I might come to dread the thought of his sweaty armpit under my nose...

Looking for a PC - fed up with Macs

I've just jumped ship from the Windows/Linux platforms and bought my first MacBook. I've never had quality or reliability issues with Windows machines but the trend there seems to going towards software as a service via the cloud and I'd rather not go there so choose to leave now. I was...

    Public transportation in the works

I first stumbled onto this continent in 2002 so it certainly wasn't Montevideo and I think it must have been 2007 when I last visited Valpo. Of the three cities in Argentina, the most recently visited is Cordoba so I am pretty sure that's where I muddled my memories.

    Public transportation in the works

Now I'm thinking I may have transferred to Buenos Aires a flash-memory made during a visit to Cordoba city. I remember passing through an unfamiliar part of the city/a city and only saw the scene for a few seconds. Poring over websites built by trolleybus nurds it seems there used to be eight...

    Public transportation in the works

Apart from the historic trams which run on rails, I'm sure I've seen trolley-buses which run on the road on rubber tyres but pick up their electricity from overhead cables. I think they are only in one part of the city but I can't remember where I've seen them!

    A Different Thread

(Requested by @steveinbsas at the end of https://baexpats.org/threads/is-there-a-way-to-get-citizenship-faster-than-having-to-wait-2-years-with-perm-residency.50182/post-472204 ) Steve, I love the AI searches you've done on yourself and on my BAExpats identity. Let me assure you that the...

is there a way to get citizenship faster than having to wait 2 years with perm residency?

@steveinbsas - do you fact-check the Google AI answers that you post or are the answers you offer strictly on a caveat emptor basis? I think AI is fine as an assistant where the human is the expert and can be expected to spot inconsistencies but not so hot if it is to be relied on as the expert...

Pant sizes, empanadas and presidential advising pets

What's more - and particularly in women's clothes - some manufacturers are persistently inflating clothing sizes to boost the sense of well-being amongst their shoppers. "Look, Gary! I still fit into a size sixteen!"

Trump's favourite populist followed his playbook. It's gone wrong.

https://inews.co.uk/news/world/trumps-favourite-populist-followed-playbook-now-gone-wrong-4410501 It's quite a long read and contains nothing that we haven't heard before. But maybe readers of the I Paper haven't heard it before?

    Disappointed with Food in Argentina

Don't knock it! There was a time back in the UK when this would have seemed positively adventurous. I remember, many years ago while visiting the Netherlands discovering that, unlike the British cheese sandwich or the British ham sandwich, the Dutch were doing crazy things like putting ham AND...

    María Nieves Rego

Argentina's auto parts industry feels the pain from shock therapy

Unwittingly, we may not even be comparing like-with-like which is further to the detriment of the Argentine made vehicle. Almost exactly one year ago (May 8th last year but- hey- who's counting?) I told the tale of buying a brand new, latest model car... ...which wasn't...

    Looking for Philadelphia Cream Cheese

I sympathise! I think we are advised to avoid "Ultra-processed" food rather than just "processed" food since more or less everything is "processed" before we eat it. Chopping vegetables is processing them. I believe food is now classified as whole/natural/whatever (fresh fruit & veg etc)...

    Looking for Philadelphia Cream Cheese

EQDSO* prefers Tregar over Finlandia but in my opinion the latter is closest to Philadelphia in taste and texture of all the mainstream brands. *Ella Que Debe Ser ....etc. Readers of John Mortimer will understand.

    Cheap Housing in Argentina

I think @HenryNisental 's suggestions are a really good jumping off point for any newbies wondering where to live, as are @Ries ' and of course the answer to any questions whatsoever is - go take a look for yourself. I like San Miguel de Tucuman but my other half doesn't; we both like Juyjuy...

Free market Argentina proves capitalism is the answer to poverty

Not so surprising, in my opinion. The Washington Post hasn't been the paper of Woodward and Bernstein for some considerable time and since 2024 has been accelerating towards the situation where in February last year, it's owner publicly stated that the paper would be writing in support and...
