How many of us are still here?

Because I’ve got awesome friends and a great social life, which literally does not exist in the USA for any parents in their late 30s. Because the city makes me happy and because the weather is amazing and because the most beautiful places on Earth are a 1 hour flight away. Because I’m just so...

    Visa after overstay?

3.5 months. A big part of it though was sheer luck - when I went to first file at the Migraciones Ave. Antártida, we got a ticket for our turn and were directed to a booth. By luck, it was a trainee, and so the manager of the whole place was training him. My spouse (local from here) was chatting...

China Eastern Airlines will fly Shanghai-Auckland-Buenos Aires

This could be an amazing way to get to Australia. BA-Auckland-Sydney. Currently the only direct flight is from Santiago and it’s always very expensive

    Visa after overstay?

Yes, worse actually, because in those two years I went back to visit family a few times. So I probably overstayed 5 times in those 2 years. Process was a mess, which I expected, but the overstay thing didn’t come up at all.

    Visa after overstay?

For what it’s worth I just got my permanent residency, I’ve been overstaying for two years now with numerous trips and overstays and they didn’t even ask about it once. I wouldn’t overthink it, there’s a big gap between the political theater announcements and actual process at Migraciones

Banco Macro has removed fees for transfers from abroad

So they are incentivizing an inflow of dollars to their holdings rather than peso … yet another sign that banks see problems on the horizon for the peso

I moved from the US to Argentina for the lower cost of living

Argentines unfortunately do not know their best strengths, I disagree completely, this is the friendliest country I have ever lived in. I've made more friends living here two years than I did in the last 10 years living in the US. I would never call the French or English 'friendly'. Portugal...

Confirmed: the BCRA is intervening in the exchange rate.

@LuckyLuke Sorry I posted the wrong article! I meant this one https://www.infobae.com/economia/2025/06/29/se-freno-el-proceso-de-apreciacion-del-tipo-de-cambio-y-el-dolar-estaria-mas-presionado-hasta-las-elecciones/

Confirmed: the BCRA is intervening in the exchange rate.

Top article on Infobae today is about cracks appearing in the exchange scheme: https://www.infobae.com/economia/2025/06/29/cuanto-dejo-de-recaudar-el-gobierno-por-reducir-las-retenciones-a-la-soja-y-que-pasara-si-las-sube/ Curious for @LuckyLuke and @Quilombo 's take on this news.

Argentina and the joint Israeli/US war on Iran

I don’t understand at all. Objectively speaking what happened is neutral-to-good, but definitely not bad. A country which has been screaming “Death to the USA” for decades and has been actively funding global terrorism has had its ability to create nuclear weapons stopped before it was too...

Argentina and the joint Israeli/US war on Iran

No need to doomsday. Chances of a ground invasion are near zero, there’s no need for it; and even if it happens there’s no way that impacts Argentina

International Wires from US to Argentina. Risk of Account Closure?

If I had your concerns I would just open an intermediary bank account. For example if you use Chase, open a standard checking account with Citibank. When you need to transfer send from Chase to Citibank and then out to Coinbase or WU. (Those bank to bank transfers are free.) Even if Citibank...

International Wires from US to Argentina. Risk of Account Closure?

Have you considered the crypto route? Many cuevas accept USDT which is a stable coin - it’s pegged to the dollar so never loses value. It’s no different than any other transfer. You’d transfer your dollars to your Coinbase account, buy USDT with it. When you need money here, you send it to the...

International Wires from US to Argentina. Risk of Account Closure?

Oh you sweet idealistic summer child. Do you hate money?! 😂 Look, in many countries paying taxes does contribute to society, but look around you. Your money is contributing to some politician’s Miami Beach penthouse mortgage. It doesn’t work like that. You don’t get to tell the IRS if you owe...
