    Banking question

I left this thread for awhile as we were moving homes again and now we're settled and I'm so sick of watching my husband stress out trying to determine which western union has pesos and spending hours a week getting cash as we still have a lot of bills to pay since we're in the moving process...

    Obra social vs prepaga

Thanks! I had read articles like that before, but wanted more clarity from expats who have dealt with US medical system too. As we've always been self-employed and had to buy health insurance out of pocket, I was wondering what the equivalent system is here, and I assume it's way better here as...

    Obra social vs prepaga

Thanks Steve! I guess my original question though was more about what the difference is between prepaid or obra social? Are they the same? And is there anything I could compare it to in the states?

which documents to bring for first time DNI appointment?

Yes, they told me it would take 60 days but i'm anticipating longer given holidays etc. Not sure why the physical card matters though as much as just having the number which you get right away. Or am I missing something?

which documents to bring for first time DNI appointment?

We got two pieces of paper with the DNI number on one and a bar code to take to the local nacional bank to pay the $300 pesos. They said the hard copy of the DNI arrives within 60 days. But with the number you can already do many things that you need a DNI for without having the physical...

    Obra social vs prepaga

Hi all, been in the country for just over a month and finally starting to feel at home and ready to tackle the health care system questions. I am curious what you recommend for my family and I. We plan to live in the country for years to come and both run our own companies in the US (we are...

which documents to bring for first time DNI appointment?

I had my appointment this week (in Entre Rios) and only needed my passport with my visa stamp in it. I also did my daughter's and while we were told my husband and I both had to be there and expected some kind of extra paperwork, for her it was just her passport/visa and birth certificate.

Hi, We have to come to Capital from Entre Rios this month and currently have an air bnb reserved (free cancellation) but I realize we are not only paying a ton but also having to use the official dollar. Xoom vs. Western Union - Pros and Cons - Other Options?

Apologies if this is something that has already been addressed here, but I just attempted to send my husband $500 through the WU website with our credit card and got the fraud alert department. Should I instead try sending to myself? Are we allowed to send ourselves money through WU? THanks!

    Organic milk/dairy in Entre Rios?

Anyone know where we can get organic whole milk and other organic gelatin-free dairy products? If not in Entre Rios, then where in Buenos Aires? (I'm going there next month and I may just bring a cooler and bring back organic dairy products with me lol.

Keeping US cell phone number for text & talk when moving there

We used to be avid Magic Jack users and perhaps eventually we will again but for now we're doing a strange combo of things that's working though not for the long term likely.

    Banking question

No reason except a couple people mentioned Banco Frances here but it's probably just where they happen to bank. And I'll ask you the same question if I direct deposit to an Argentine bank account from WU is it pesificado? Or do I still get the WU blue rate?

    Banking question

Thank you so much! I really appreciate your thorough analysis and experience. So just to clarify, if I use Western Union to direct deposit into our Argentine account, we will still get the blue dollar rate, correct? And then we can use our argentine bank debit card to pay for the...

Bringing a container with our stuff...

Yes, we are here for good too (whatever that means as I've learned over the past decade that nothing is ever permanent) and we are bringing everything that we didn't give away in the US. Based on the past two weeks, I know I will be relieved and happy once my everyday luxuries from back home...

Bringing a container with our stuff...

Hi! I really appreciate all the advice and wisdom I've gotten here so far so thought I'd ask about this unfolding situation... Our shipping container is apparently on the way set to arrive in early December. My husband, as an Argentine citizen who lived in US for 20 years has done all the...

    How to get a DNI?

So of course we drove the 75 minutes today for my appointment with Migraciones to be told that the only two people who know how to do it are on vacation. When I asked why the system had let me make an appointment they said they must have forgotten to let the system know they were gone. So, we...
