What do American expats miss the most about living in America?

Haha I'm not sure I'm so adventurous, but short of relocating to El Chalten, I was curious if there was a 'hiking spot'. In NYC you could jump on the train and go a couple hours north to hiking (and obviously that's a big city too). I lived there for a decade before I realized it was possible on...

What do American expats miss the most about living in America?

So what's the nature fun plan in the Delta? Can you row out beyond the residential part, or is that too far? Hop off on an island and hike (or would you sink in the mud)? I do have a friend with an island house, but it seems more like a yard than 'nature'. Where's the nearest nature-nature (as...

What do American expats miss the most about living in America?

I'm with rl45, I miss some 'easy' products from the states in particular pancake mix. I know I could do it myself, but I never feel that ambitious in the morning. I miss crickets and cicadas chirping. And as a Coloradan, easy access to nature.

Milei to New Yorkers: Flee "communist" Mamdani to Argentina

As a former New Yorker (15 years), I suspect our Taiwanese friend spent even less time there than in BA. Mamdani's proposals make sense to that particular situation, and that's why he won. As an American whose tax dollars are being spent to keep the peso artificially high (thus making life more...

    Government plans U.S.-style immigration reform

Not the news I was hoping for as I'm seemingly stalled out in the process of getting from precaria to temporary visa rentista. Sounds like they want their own version of ICE? "The government is finalizing the technical details to formalize the creation of a new immigration agency that will...

Milei to New Yorkers: Flee "communist" Mamdani to Argentina

Sorry, Javier: "No one leaving New York City because of Mamdani, say two top real estate CEOs" https://www.cnbc.com/2025/11/14/new-york-city-mayor-zohran-mamdani-real-estate-ceos.html

Where do American expats live in Argentina?

Our meetup is a tiny segment (at an awkward time for people with jobs, as you said, so it's mostly retired folks), but there's also Mundo Lingo, which is mobbed with young expats. I see a different crowd at Trivia night, and a different crowd at the philosophy meetup, etc. If the 30,000 figure...

    Temporary Residence Renewal

Weird, my lawyer seems to be having problems uploading docs yesterday and today. Wonder if there's a system problem?

Milei to New Yorkers: Flee "communist" Mamdani to Argentina

When you say expats I think you mean gringo temporary/permanent residents? I'm not sure I know who's an expat vs tourist in Palermo. There are venezuelans and Bolivians who I suspect might go home if the economic situation reversed. No one knows if they're here for good; even in the USA I knew...

Johnny Depp is in Argentina to promote his new film

It seems the Argentines love any musician or celebrity who manages to make their way down here. Was there ever a famous Yankee who was met with a big yawn from the media, or criticism?

    Visa Application Processing Time

So before you clarified, I sent a screenshot of the application to renew the precaria along with the expired precaria (which had been rejected before)... and wouldn't you know it, the bank approved the liquidation. So, thanks! Even if I misunderstood, it did the trick.

    Visa Application Processing Time

This is my situation; I could just WU money to myself, but migraciones wants the money deposited for the visa rentista to originate from the account where my rental income is deposited. I think I have more than 5 days 'in limbo', from what I recall it's 30 days or something at Santander. What do...

    Visa Application Processing Time

YOW. Any idea why it took that long? Was that during the pandemic? It's annoying for me at the moment because I have money sitting en route from a wire transfer, and the bank won't liquidate it until i get my unexpired precaria.

    Visa Application Processing Time

Marriage is usually the easiest path, though probably not for the original poster... Though getting divorced and each getting married to argentines then re-divorced and remarried may still be the fastest route to permanent residency

    Visa Application Processing Time

Yes I'm waiting for my renewal of my first precaria, even that's taking longer than they said. Lawyer says it looks like Migraciones hasn't even looked into my actual case file. Sigh. I can't believe the person who got PR in 6 months; but that's not rentista? Not sure how they did that.

    Midterm election results

That reminds me of Trump's 2024 win; people generally expected Kamala to win, so Ds who weren't particularly excited about her stayed home. Not sure if Trump actually picked up more votes than in 2020, or if he just had a more motivated base on election day. Will there be that sort of analysis...

    The Friday before Sunday

Is the theory the exchange rate is higher than it will be on Monday, because of election panic; LLA is going to win big and the rate will drop to 1200 or something? Or the opposite, and it goes to 2000 so we should buy dollars today? I'm not doing anything, but I'm curious about the 'buy pesos'...

The quo in the quid pro quo

Definitely the reason for the chicken culling, but I don't think they did the same with infected cattle. Seems the high prices of beef are due to drought, tariffs, meat processing costs (deportations?). I don't imagine we'll see culling in the future, with the CDC layoffs and RFK in charge. I...

Trump says US will not 'waste our time' helping Argentina if Milei loses

I can't believe media can't agree if the pesos have been purchased yet or not... The NYTimes and WSJ seem unready to commit; is this bad journalism, or good journalism? TN says (via google translate): The transaction was finalized through Banco Santander, which confirmed this in response to a...
