BAFICI '11: a How-to Guide to an amazing international film festival

Hey group! A friend of mine recently did a write up of the ins and outs of BAFICI for a local paper. The article is very comprehensive. It is a must read if you have never been, but I'm sure you can learn a few things if you have been to it before as well. Unfortunately I will not be in BA...

Long-termers, how do you deal with being homesick?

I have been living in Buenos Aires since Aug of 2007. I miss home greatly, but appreciate the fact that I can go and visit for a month at a time and then come back to my normal life here in Buenos Aires. I still struggle a lot with 'home-sickness' but convincing friends and family to visit you...

    Malbec

Gascon right now is about 14 pesos in the grocery store, Trapiche is about 12, and one of my cheap faves is Uxmal which is about 20/22 pesos. There are still cheap ones that are about 8-10 pesos, but are not so great.

I Need Trip Advice: Santiago & Mendoza

I always travel in hostels, so you probably don't want my advice on that front. I took a 2 week Mendoza/Santiago trip, and if you are there already you should check out Valparaiso as well. It is a gorgeous coast city made up of a tin of hills just an hour or so outside of Santiago.

    After second 90 visa expires

Be careful if you fly to Chile. If you fly into Santiago you have to pay the same reciprocity fee at the airport to gain admittance. If you bus over, or if you fly into any other airport that is not the case.

Looking for a good Swedish or Deep Tissue Massage!

Hey Masha, I'm not really offering a recommendation because I have never actually experienced my own massage, but I have seen the results from my clients in BA over the past 2+ years that I have been practicing here. I was trained in the US in 2005 at the Humanities Center for Massage, and I...

    Word of the Day:

I like the choice of words you used. I knew a few already, but can't seem to find a translation on loor. I did an image search as well b/c that usually is better than a direct translation. No dice. There was an advertisement last winter for Barioloche or some other resort and it said...

    Dollar & peso: 2010 forecast

I don't know, I would disagree with this article. I know the farmers want the peso to be more like 4.12 to the dollar. Since the farmers are so powerful in this country I would not imagine that they couldn't get what they want. Only time can tell.

    Seeking printer for custom postcards

There are a lot of print shops around the Facultad de Medicina. The one I go to regularly is on Uriburu in between Viamonte, and Tucuman on teh odd side of the street.

Inflation over the last few months and years

Every few months I see a price jump in the supermarkets, restaurants, and taxis; I don't like it, but it is not new, and I somehow feel it is to be expected. This last time I have felt the jump to be more steep than in the past. This article confirmed my suspicions. What are your thoughts?

    $15 bread

I think factored into the prices at the disco is the convenience that they offer delivery.

    Inflation

A few things that I see unbalanced with Broccli's criticism of this 'expensive' hole in the wall. 5 empanadas is quite a lot of food for one person. Also, most cheap restaurants make their money on drink sales, so you can save at least 10 pesos just by drinking beer you got at the supermarket...
