14 day quarantine for those arriving from aboard

We arrived Oct. 28th. No one checked on us at all. We stayed within a 1-2 block radius if we went out at all (we needed to eat, after all) and always masked as usual. All my relatives here scoffed at us being worried about anyone checking in on us or a neighbor notifying authorities. They would...

Argentina re-opening international flights in August!

I think they are keeping the new date open-ended, which sucks because a lot of people in the travel industry have to be able to make long-term plans. That said, I have tickets on Delta for Sept. 30th/Oct 1st direct Atlanta to EZE. Up till now Delta was only flying as far as Sao Paolo, which I...

    Citizenship timeline

Isn't it true that a 90-day tourist visa allows for one extension to 180 days without penalty? Jacob, no one is going to hunt you down and deport you if you stay past the limit of the tourist visa. The only thing that happens is that when you do leave you'll have to pay a small fine at the...

    Abortion to become legal.....

Arguments against legalizing abortion have very much to do with people's fears of changing gender roles. In a very Catholic and patriarchal society, this is doubly true. A woman who is allowed to control how many children she has (and when) is a woman who enjoys economic independence. Many...

    Abortion to become legal.....

Nonsense. A full-term pregnancy carries many more risks to a woman's health than a simple abortion procedure. And numerous studies have shown that the majority of women do not regret making the choice to terminate a pregnancy and suffer much less than women who give up a child for adoption.

    Buying Real Estate in BA

For those of us who don't have suitcases of dollars in cash available to buy property but who intend to stay long-term, what are our options when it comes to financing via mortgage or some sort of equivalent? Has anyone tried it and what has the experience been like?

    Western Union money transfer

Ah well, thanks! Yes, can't escape the taxes. Either way, though, using WU and exchanging at the official rate you end up just about even so it's better than nothing. Hopefully it doesn't change too much soon.

    Western Union money transfer

If I'm not a legal resident, I still pay the PAIS tax? I thought that only applied to Argentine residents.

    Western Union money transfer

A scenario: I send U$D1,000 from my US bank account to myself through WU, go to a branch in BA and they give me $83,200 pesos. Then I walk over to an 'oficial' exchange office, and turn my $83,200 pesos into U$D1,434. Could I then go to a cueva and use the blue rate sell dollars for pesos...

Global Cost of Living Index for 2020

Very interesting. Amazing how expensive it is to live in the US, so many minor midwestern small cities more expensive that major European cities. This is why Americans can't get ahead.

Requirements of registration and rental apartments in Argentina.

OK. Good to know. I haven't used them, just communicated a few times and yes I didn't get a great impression but who knows, everyone has different experiences. I have used ByT and 4Rent and each time have had excellent service so those I can recommend first hand.

Requirements of registration and rental apartments in Argentina.

Besides AirB&B, try ByTArgentina, 4RentArgentina and My Lovely Apartment for temporary furnished apartment rental companies. I just rented an apt for 3-6 months and put down 20% of the total rent to reserve it via credit card, then when I arrive I pay cash for one month deposit plus the first...

    P.O. Box?

Are P.O. Boxes or something equivalent available in Buenos Aires? I won't have a permanent address for a bit, and while I could use a relative's address to have mail forwarded, I didn't want to impose too much on them. Having a PO Box would be much more convenient.
