    Why is bread so expensive?

How do you make a living down there Steve? Do you live off the land? :) I'd love to be able to move out to the country but finding work seems to be the issue. And yes, sliced packaged bread is expensive.

    Horrible accident in Flores

The government has a hard enough time filling potholes - I don't have much faith in their ability or will to do away with all grade crossings. What they should do right now is make sure that 1. the barriers, lights, and bells are working correctly at every crossing and 2. that people respect...

    Horrible accident in Flores

Terrible news this martes 13. "No te cases ni te embarques!" But I'm actually surprised there aren't a lot more colectivo accidents... they drive like madmen.

    Punctuality

Waiting for 2 hours is not normal! I'd say 30 minutes max, unless they have a pretty good excuse and a dependable arrival time. Calling before you leave to make sure they're at home or on the way is a good idea, too. The relatives were probably upset that you left right before they got...

    It's another visa question ya'll

I'm not sure why anyone here would care how long you overstay your visa, since from my experience not even immigration cares. As long as you have some dollars to hand over when you leave... I wish you would have overstayed though, then you could tell us if that 3 strikes rule is true or not...

    Feria de Mataderos

So yesterday after reading this thread, I convinced my boyfriend to take us. He wasn't sure, said it was a bad area, but since it was a beautiful day we decided to go and see. I wasn't overly impressed. The quality of the handmade goods wasn't spectacular and the prices aren't that cheap...

    "Leaving America"

I'm obviously very late to this thread... I don't hang out with expats and in fact have never met another expat in all the years I've been visiting. I can say though I try not to say I'm "Americana." I don't use that stupid long word estadounidense either and I find the word norteamericano...

    Hairdresser 2011

Many expats are on a budget, and Argentine women will pay for luxury, but to a point! I suggest like many others you lower your prices... or you start making up some story about being Julia Robert's former hair stylist. ;)

    Where to donate clothes?

A lot of people donate clothes to the church.

    Pets in BA

We have 2 dogs we rescued off the street. Our puppy was tied outside of a house to the bars of a window by my fiance's work. The rope wasn't even long enough to allow her to lay down completely on the sidewalk, so she'd sleep with her head hanging. There was a circle of poo and pee around...

    Vomiting every 2 weeks!

I think it's normal to get sick while adjusting to a foreign country. I never get sick at home, but here I've had colds, the flu, and pink eye all in less than 6 months! On one of my prior visits I got stomach cramps so bad I actually passed out while on the toilet. Nothing like waking up...

UK graduate moving to BsAs 2012

Things have certainly changed in the last couple of years. I've been coming to Argentina for the past 7 years and prices have increased drastically on just about everything, especially in the last year or two. I suggest you bring everything you might need in the way of clothes or electronics...

    Couldn't quite belive this!!!

Most Argentineans are insensitive when it comes to race, but there's not much racially motivated crime or violence here unless you count pickpocketing Americans a race crime. They may stare, joke, ask silly questions, or make broad generalizations, but for the most part it's harmless, though...

traveling to other s. am. countries

Assuming you're from the US, you do not need a visa to visit Uruguay. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/c/cb/USVisaFreeMap.PNG In my opinion the South American reciprocal "visa" is a bit of a joke.

Immigration visa TO the U.S. for an Argentine?

Tourist visas aren't that easy to get for the average Argentine, so I can only imagine the difficulty of getting a work visa. And with the economy the way it is, she might have a difficult time finding a job with only an Argentine law degree. I've heard stories of US law graduates working in...
