The number of milongas (venues for any style of tango dancing) in BA has increased because of tango's popularity around the world. The article includes only one milonga where milongueros (seniors in their 80s) dance -- Club Gricel on Saturday. The others appeal to tourists and a younger generation of dancers.
I no longer dance regularly, but recommend my favorites to visitors who ask where the milongueros dance:
1. Lo de Celia Tango Club on Humberto Primo at the corner of Av. Entre Rios. They celebrated the 25th anniversary on July 14, 2025, shortly after a complete remodeling. The venue was my second home with family, and it's beautiful. It's important to know the codes, how to invite a woman with the cabeceo, floor craft, and of course, the orquestas of the 40s.
2. Club Gricel on La Rioja near Av. San Juan. The Saturday afternoon milonga has an older group of dancers who respect the codes.
3. Nuevo Chique in Casa de Galicia, San Jose 224, an afternoon milonga from 4:00-9:00pm in the first floor salon that is organized by Marcela who speaks English. Great tandas provided by my favorite tango DJ Daniel Borelli who also works on Wednesdays in Lo de Celia.
