10,000 new homes for the poor in....

Ally with the USA? For what? That is the most corrupt, war mongering nation destroying country on the planet. The USA deserves to lose ALL her allies as a result of the millions of innocents she has slaughtered and covered in depleted uranium. Death to the corrupt, communist North American superpower and death to its controlling puppet master, Israel!

If foreign aid and charity were contingent on domestic poverty being non-existent, there would be no foreign aid anywhere.

Venezuela is a strategic partner, and this is a symbolic gesture.

And so if this is the case then basic logic should tell you that it's NOT that WISE to go out of your way to antagonize this BIG tough bully :) ..no?

Yes it's a valid point, but why should Argentina donate & build houses for another country that can't get it's economic act together? In spite of the fact that Venezuela is naturally endowed with rich oil reserves it can't even feed it's own?

Why should Argentina put money into an economically unsustainable bottomless pit when doing so is only a temporary fix at best?

Like his good mate Gadafy, Chavez will be thrown out when the full effect of his economic mismanagement impacts on the poor...and when Argentina's K gov finally runs out of $$$ ....who's going to help Argentina's starving poor ? Venezuela?

Chavez has done vastly more for the poor, hungry and homeless of Venezuela than any of his predecessors. Not a huge fan of the man, but if you're going to criticize him I'd focus on something other than his track record on poverty reduction.

Ok...so...if he's done so much for the poor...why does he now need to borrow more from the Chinese? Could it be that his economic 'Model' is unsustainable?

How can a country with so much natural wealth be going broke?

Or could it be that Chavez is doing the same dirty trick on Venezuela's voters that Kirchner did to Argentina's? To shaft them as soon as he get's back in by suddenly cutting off all the election year sweetener$.

Sorry JP but I cannot see how Chavez's cheap populist tactics have done anything but help him to hang on to power while the country slides further into the abyss. How can you defend such an atrocious track record?

Your own link does not mention anything close to getting broke. Context is the extreme opposition between Venezuela & the US and all the surrounding aspects (economic war with the Oil nationalization & such = Same reason that led to the 1965 putsch in Argentina btw...).
After the 2007 oil nationalization, the two US companies stepped back (not the 8 other I recall).
Investments are needed and China is providing those in exchange for oil.

In return, China also protects Venezuela from any direct military action.

Chavez is indeed a populist, a provocative, etc. but extreme poverty went from something like 80% to 30% in a few years, a lot is invested into Education (main point according to me : seed the Future).

Also, let's forget our occidental way of thinking, Chavez is the first or one of the first native to reach the Presidency.

There are also many legal actions following the oil nationalizations, billions of $ have been seized on US+UK accounts (among others), Venezuela is actually taking back its reserve Gold back into the country (http://www.laht.com/article.asp?ArticleId=448016&CategoryId=10718)
