4G At Last!

The way it is told to me is the government will not issue permits to the major cell phone companies for new towers and upgrade stuff. This has been going on for quite some time: no permits for new construction. Government was trying to get its state owned satellite and telecoms operator ARSAT off the ground with the 3G technology. ARSAT ended up with the 3G spectrum a few years back. Of course it was a failure and everyone paid the price. It is the Argentine way of doing business.

If they have not yet successfully deployed 3 g yet , 4g may be fully deployed by , ohhh, 2020 ?

missed this, got a link?

There is a display made out of hot wheels models and paper mache at Ezeiza in front of the check in desks. It features a ridiculously upbeat propaganda video on endless repeat. I'm sure some campora friendly business got paid $20 million to design it.

The train connection is going to be at Cristo Redentor and as far as I know they haven't actually started anything yet.

I know that Arsat is running fibre optics to the smaller towns in the Mendoza province where Telefonica has a de facto a monopoly over the last mile but at the same time does not invest in their infrastructure. I have been trying to get a phone line and Speedy from them for a couple of years without luck. So cooperatives and smaller ISP's with Arsat backbone are the only hope here ...

3g in argentina sucks because of this

They reserved a bunch of the bandwidth for a government ran 3g network that afaik was never launched?

Looks like they'll sell the 3g bandwidth along with the 4g one this time around?

Absolutely correct. I lead an International group considering bidding and/or deploying this system , and my partners could not run away fast enough. The idea of investing close to a billion dollars and have the risk of the government nationalizing it was a joke.

It looks like the project was put on hold by the Piñera government but might be revitalized now with Bachelet in power.
